The BioResource and Agricultural Engineering Department (BRAE) in the College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, CA, is seeking two (2) full-time, tenure-track assistant/associate professors in agricultural engineering (civil/mechanical) starting August 17, 2026. Responsibilities
Teach undergraduate and graduate level courses in agricultural engineering. Courses may include Engineering Topics (Statics, Dynamics, and Strength of Materials), Agriculture Structures (steel and concrete lectures and labs), Agriculture Power and Machinery Management, Mechanical Systems Analysis, Agricultural Systems Management, and Equipment Engineering, depending on the candidate’s background and the department’s needs. Develop and maintain an active research program. Engage in department, college, and University service tasks. Possibly supervise undergraduate senior projects and clubs. Compensation
Grade and salary commensurate with education and experience of the selected candidate. Anticipated hiring ranges: Assistant Professor: 90,948 – 105,156 Associate Professor: 105,492 – 114,720 Qualifications
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Doctor of Philosophy or Doctor of Engineering degrees in Agricultural, Mechanical, Civil, Environmental Sustainability, or other relevant engineering discipline. Candidates nearing completion of the doctorate (ABD) may be considered but must provide proof that the doctorate was awarded prior to the start of appointment. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellence in teaching, effective communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to be a productive team player and to interact well with peers, students, industry, government agencies, and the public is essential. Demonstrated experience and commitment to student-centered learning and teaching, as well as demonstrated ability to collaboratively work in multidisciplinary settings, are required. Excellent written and oral communication skills and strong interests in undergraduate teaching are required. Proficiency in English language use is required. Candidates must also demonstrate ability to communicate with industry supporters to secure external funding. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Industry, fabrication, and experience teaching in a hands-on, learn-by-doing environment is preferred. Candidates should have a strong commitment to teaching excellence and laboratory-based instruction. Ability to collaborate with faculty across the College and University is desirable. Preference will be given to those with experience working with diverse populations and fostering a collaborative, supportive, and inclusive environment. Preference will also be given to those with relevant work experience who bring professional capabilities and who can build connections with industry and foster new relationships. Registration as a professional engineer, or the ability to obtain registration within two years, is also preferred. SPECIAL CONDITIONS
