Role Overview The Systems Engineer will lead cross‑functional efforts in developing system‑level architecture and requirements that shape Missile Defense Agency (MDA) incremental capabilities. The candidate will employ Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) to evaluate architectural impacts on conventional and advanced threat scenarios, including ballistic, aero‑maneuvering, hypersonic, hyper‑glide, and countermeasure systems.

Key Responsibilities

Lead cross‑functional teams in creating system level architecture and requirements.

Apply MBSE to conduct functional and behavioral analyses for MDA mission areas.

Develop system of systems requirements through trade studies and analyses.

Author Change Notices (CNs) to MDA system specifications covering functional, interface, and performance requirements.

Produce architectural models, interface definitions, and traceability matrices from system to element level.

Deliver technical briefings, CNs, and other deliverables for internal and MDA stakeholder reviews.

Job Requirements

Degree in engineering, mathematics, or physics: Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D.

10‑20 years of related work experience.

Proven background in architecture development, functional decomposition, and allocation of requirements (performance, functional, and interface).

Extensive experience using MSOSA (Cameo) and DOORS for requirements management and modeling.

Demonstrated familiarity with at least one MDA domain, such as Ground Based Midcourse Defense (GMD), Glide Phase Intercept (GPI), Hypersonic and Ballistic Tracking Space Sensor (HBTSS), Fire Control systems, C2BMC, and MDS sensors (EO/IR/RF).

Ability to analyze complex problems, develop solutions, and articulate concepts in written papers, presentations, and group discussions.

Strong oral and written communication and experience presenting technical material to both technical and non‑technical audiences.

Capable of working autonomously as well as collaboratively within a small team environment.

Proven track record of working closely with customers to understand needs, gather requirements, and deliver solutions.

Desired Competencies

Experience modeling or simulating missile defense applications or similar domains: air combat, air defense, intercept of ballistic and non‑ballistic targets, space vehicles, sub‑orbital mechanics, etc.

Knowledge of ballistic and advanced threat systems: aero‑maneuvering, hypersonic, hyper‑glide, countermeasures, etc.

Modeling and analysis experience in aspects of the missile defense system: Aegis Weapons Systems, GMD, GPI, HBTSS, Fire Control, C2BMC, MDS sensors (EO/IR/RF), kill vehicles, interceptors, countermeasures; systems engineering experience with large, complex systems.

Clearance Requirements Must currently hold or be able to obtain an Active DoD Secret Clearance.
