Job Description Join the primetime team behind Top Story with Tom Llamas on NBC News NOW. We are looking for a newsroom leader with exceptional producing skills and sharp editorial judgment to drive high‑quality, day‑of‑air package production under intense deadlines.
Responsibilities
Identify, vet, and shape timely, compelling stories that can turn fast for same‑day air.
Lead a team of Producers, Associate Producers, and Production Assistants—providing clear direction, hands‑on edit guidance, and steady leadership when news is breaking.
Surface the strongest elements for each story—if it pops, you find it and secure it.
Elevate scripts through smart rewrites and thoughtful structure.
Troubleshoot last‑minute edit issues and keep packages moving to air.
Set the editorial approach and clearly communicate how each piece should come together.
Coordinate closely with reporters and producers across NBC News platforms.
Mentor early‑career staff on writing, editing, and news judgment to help them grow.
Pinpoint the right angles for reporter assignments.
Jump into the control room as needed.
Qualifications
Minimum 6 years of experience in live television news.
Advanced proficiency in Avid Media Composer and Adobe Premiere Pro.
Outstanding writing and script‑editing skills.
Strong editorial judgment and proven ability to make calls under pressure.
Deep understanding of visual storytelling and segment production.
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience.
Experience leading and mentoring teams across varying levels of experience.
Ability to successfully work in a highly collaborative team‑oriented environment.
Willingness to work on‑site in New York, NY.
Desired Qualifications
Experience managing talent and working closely with anchors and correspondents.
Strong grasp of the streaming and digital news space.
Solutions‑focused mindset with the ability to pivot quickly when the news changes.
Creative thinker with a passion for finding new ways to elevate storytelling and viewer engagement.
Collaborative leader who inspires, communicates clearly, and sets high standards in a fast‑paced environment.
Additional Requirements
Required On‑Site: This position is required to be performed full‑time from an NBCUniversal‑designated worksite.
This position is eligible for company sponsored benefits, including medical, dental, and vision insurance, 401(k), paid leave, tuition reimbursement, and a variety of other discounts and perks. Salary range: $125,000 - $170,000.
