Deputy Chief Pharmacist of Clinical Services To manage all aspects of the clinical pharmacy service within the organisation.

To lead, manage, coordinate, monitor, develop and audit clinical pharmacy and medicines management across the Trust via teams and individuals of directly accountable senior pharmacists, under the direction of the Chief Pharmacist and Senior Clinicians.

To plan and develop strategic issues relating to the provision of clinical pharmacy in the Trust and ensure services are delivered to a high quality in a safe and cost‑effective manner in accordance with relevant legislation.

To liaise closely with the Chief Pharmacist, Deputy Chief Pharmacist – Cancer services, Pharmacy Operational Managers, and the Pharmacy Governance Managers in providing leadership through the Senior Pharmacy Team to deliver optimal care to patients.

To deputise for the Chief Pharmacist.

Main duties of the job

Overseeing the delivery and development of clinical pharmacy services across the organisation, ensuring high standards of patient care and safety.

Leading and managing clinical pharmacy teams, including workforce planning, training, and professional development.

Supporting the Chief Pharmacist in strategic planning, policy development, and implementation of new clinical initiatives.

Ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, national guidelines, and local protocols relating to clinical pharmacy practice.

Monitoring and evaluating clinical pharmacy services to identify areas for improvement and drive service innovation.

Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to optimise medication management and contribute to wider patient care objectives.

Representing the pharmacy department in meetings, committees, and working groups as required.

Qualifications

MPharm or equivalent academic qualification.

Registration with General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).

Postgraduate qualification in clinical pharmacy or equivalent.

Management qualification relevant to the NHS.

Evidence of commitment to continued professional development (CPD).

Member of the RPS Faculty.

Experience

Significant experience in acute hospital setting demonstrating clinical and management effectiveness sufficient to develop and proactively lead the pharmacy team.

Proven ability to work well in a multi‑professional team; working effectively including breaking down silos to work in partnership both internally and externally.

Knowledge of the current major clinical workflow and pathways in hospitals including a broad knowledge of ePMA (prescribing and Administration Systems) and application in healthcare.

Experience in delivering change using knowledge of quality improvement methodologies.

Experience in supervising others, leading and managing change, working at a leadership level, a record in achievement in leading and managing change, solving problems and managing complex situations.

Experience of training and education of both pharmacy staff and other healthcare professionals.

Experience in project management (including department and Trust‑wide roles) and evidence of completed outcome.

Skills and Knowledge

Relationship building (communicate effectively, be open and willing to help, courtesy, nurtures partnerships).

Awareness of current NHS and interface issues including national and local priorities.

Passion to success (patient centred, positive attitude, take action, take pride, take responsibility, aspire for excellence, valuing and creating opportunities for all members of the workforce).

Broad range of experience in key clinical / managerial / leadership and technical areas in pharmacy services.
