Job Summary
Experienced Fiber Optic Technicians are needed for a large‑scale data center project in Abilene, Texas. The role involves ribbon splicing, splicing of 6912s cable on OSEs, and testing, as part of the national Stargate AI infrastructure program.
Work Schedule
Current shifts run from 7 AM – 7 PM and 7 PM – 7 AM. Technicians can choose between a 6‑day on/2‑day off or a 3‑weeks on/1‑week off schedule.
Location
3652 N Clack Street, Abilene, TX 79601. Out‑of‑market technicians receive a $150 daily per diem for lodging and meals; local technicians (within 60 mi) are reimbursed 73 ¢/mile for home commutes.
Responsibilities
Perform mid‑level splicing functions for aerial, underground, and ISP cable routing. Read and interpret construction prints, drawings, and splice matrices to meet customer requirements. Determine equipment needs, cable routes, and safety best practices in live customer facilities. Execute mid‑sheath cable entry, single and ribbon splices, and basic cable relocations and hot cuts. Operate OTDR and power meter testing for spliced cables. Install and research procedures for splice enclosures. Document test results, troubleshoot issues, and use basic problem‑solving skills. Communicate effectively with internal peers, customers, subcontractors, and leadership. Respond timely to critical situations and emergency outages with appropriate urgency. Maintain safety awareness and adhere to all safety requirements and standards. Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum 2 years experience with ribbon splicing; experience with mass fusion splicers and testers in a data center is preferred. Safety‑centric mindset; ability to travel and work long hours. Steel‑toed boots provided; must wear them on the job. Proficiency with OTDR, power meters, and cable testing equipment. Intermediate to expert level fiber optic knowledge. Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
