University of Texas at Austin, Jackson School of Geosciences, Austin, TX. Position type: Full‑time, 12‑month, non‑tenure track, open rank. Salary: Competitive. Application deadline: 15 November 2025. The Jackson School of Geosciences (JSG) seeks two full‑time Professors of Practice to serve as Curator‑in‑Charge and oversee staff and operations for either the Vertebrate Paleontology Laboratory (VPL) or the Non‑vertebrate Paleontology Laboratory (NPL). These appointments have a three‑year rolling contract and are salaried. Key Responsibilities

Paleontological Research

Conduct independent research and publish in peer‑reviewed journals. Collaborate with JSG faculty and UT Austin researchers; support graduate and undergraduate students using VPL/NPL collections. Seek external funding for research and collection development; work with Jackson School development office.

Curation and Laboratory Management

Serve on the museum steering committee setting research priorities and conservation goals. Act as curator‑in‑charge of collections, in consultation with faculty research curators. Facilitate collaborations among UT researchers and promote use of collections in teaching. Oversee laboratory staff (collections manager, fossil preparator) and manage operations in alignment with school priorities. Coordinate collections acquisition, sample intake, fossil preparation, loan and destructive sampling requests. Plan and manage the laboratory budget, including endowment income, gifts and external funding; work with Jackson School development team on fundraising.

Teaching and Mentoring

Teach one undergraduate course per year in the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences. Mentor graduate and undergraduate students; serve on thesis committees; may serve as principal graduate thesis advisor with committee approval. Incorporate innovative teaching or outreach using museum collections.

Distribution of Effort

Approximately 20% personal research, 20% facilitation of research by faculty and students, 50% curator‑in‑charge and lab management (including fundraising), 10% teaching. Qualifications

Ph.D. in Geoscience or related field. Established or potential independent paleontological research program (peer‑reviewed publications). Prior experience in paleontological curation or collections management. Formal university teaching experience at undergraduate level. Proven grantsmanship and excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Application Instructions
