9-10th Grade Math Associate Instructor (Spring 2026) Title:

Position Overview Associate Instructors will join SEO’s community of passionate educators to implement a rigorous college prep curriculum for motivated and driven high school students. Using our original curriculum and a student‑centered approach to teaching and learning, Associate Instructors play an integral part in supporting our Scholars’ journeys to a competitive college and beyond. They promote depth of understanding and skill acquisition by serving as a coach and facilitator of learning. Associates co‑teach alongside Instructors to facilitate classroom instruction, teach mini lessons, organize small group and one‑on‑one instruction, and provide additional Scholar support. Associate Instructors do not have grading responsibilities.

Dates, Schedule, & Weekly Hours Dates and Orientation:

9th Grade Orientation:

Saturday, 2/28, 9:00‑2:00 pm

10th Grade Orientation:

Saturday, 1/24, 9:00‑2:00 pm

Schedule and Hours:

Math Associate Instructors co‑teach four 50‑minute lessons to 2 groups of approximately 25‑30 Scholars. The schedule also includes an instructional prep period.

Individual teaching schedules will vary within the 9:00 am‑4:00 pm instructional timeframe.

Standard Hours: Saturdays, 9:00 am‑4:00 pm (with a 50‑minute lunch) = ~6 hours weekly.

Flex Hours: up to 2 hours weekly, completed asynchronously throughout the week.

Future opportunities for Summer or Fall semesters may also be available.

Site Location Saturday Academy Programming will take place at the UC Law campus: 200 McAllister St, San Francisco, CA 94102; off the Civic Center BART stop.

Courses For Spring 2026, the following math courses will be offered:

9th Math:

Numbers and Operations

10th Math:

Trigonometry

Other courses:

Numbers and Operations, Graphs and Relationships, and Algebra/Pattern and Structure Courses

– skills include properties of numbers; expressions, equations, and identities; ratio and rate; percentages; proportional reasoning; irrational numbers; linear, quadratic, and exponential functions; algebraic representation of functions; graphing functions and identifying key characteristics; modeling real‑world situations; systems of equations and inequalities; algebra with exponents; fractional exponents and roots; algebra with rational expressions; geometry figures; coordinate geometry.

Trigonometry, Precalculus, and SAT Math Courses – skills include triangle geometry, trigonometric functions, inverse trig functions, radian measure, the unit circle, graphing and modeling with sine and cosine, unit analysis, function notation, transformations, average rate of change, introductory limits and derivatives, and content for the new digital SAT.

Key Responsibilities

Instruction & Facilitation:

Co‑teach four periods of Math. Lead a class when asked, following lesson plans and meeting objectives while maintaining rigorous instruction and student engagement.

Instructional Technologies:

Learn and efficiently use Brightspace, Desmos, GSuite applications, and Zoom chat in a blended learning environment.

Content Preparation:

Read, internalize, and practice all lesson plans and materials before teaching, adjusting pacing and activities to meet student needs.

Tutoring and Academic Support:

Host open‑door lunch tutoring sessions for Scholars wishing to review skills, make up missed work, or develop new skills.

Classroom Culture:

Project an energetic, engaging, and approachable persona to promote student connection, investment, and positive relationships.

Collaboration with SEO Staff and Instructors:

Attend all scheduled meetings, professional development training, check‑ins, and debriefs; respond to emails and Zoom chats promptly.

Responsiveness to Coaching and Feedback:

Meet with your assigned instructional coach at least twice during the semester to receive and implement feedback based on SEO’s Indicators of Effective Instruction.

Qualifications Required:

Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in a content‑related field

High school classroom teaching experience

Comfortable with and skilled at working with technology learning systems

Understanding and practice of student‑centered pedagogy

Expertise and depth of knowledge in Advanced high school‑level Mathematics (Algebra & Trigonometry)

Preferred:

Secondary Education Degree and Certification

Knowledge and experience with Universal Design for Learning (UDL)

Certifications, PD course completions, and/or tertiary education in Instructional Technologies

Eagerness to engage in conversations analyzing the historical and ongoing causes of societal ills and challenges.

Teaching certification is not required.

Compensation Associate Instructors are compensated on a competitive hourly rate scale at $40/hour. This position averages 8 hours per week. The compensation listed reflects what SEO believes it will pay for this position at the time of this posting. Salaries will be determined based on the applicant’s skills, qualifications, and experience. SEO reserves the right to modify this pay range at any time. This position is benefits‑ineligible under local, state, and federal regulations.
