Worthington Steel is seeking a
Skilled Machinist
with strong manual and CNC machining experience to join our team in Columbus, Ohio. This is a hands-on role focused on precision machining, repair, and tooling for our steel manufacturing operations.
As a
Machinist
on our 2nd shift team, you’ll work with a variety of machine tools—including
DMG Mori, Okuma, Gidding & Lewis, American, Acra, and Bridgeport —to support maintenance and production needs across the plant. This position is ideal for experienced machinists who enjoy variety, problem-solving, and technical precision in a clean, well-equipped shop environment.
Key Responsibilities
Set up and operate
manual and CNC lathes, mills, grinders, and drill presses .
Machine and modify components for
industrial machinery, dies, and tooling .
Read and interpret
blueprints, mechanical drawings, and GD&T specifications .
Perform precision measurements using
micrometers, calipers, and dial indicators .
Conduct preventive maintenance and troubleshoot mechanical issues.
Mentor and assist junior machinists with setups and best practices.
Maintain a
clean, safe, and organized workspace
in accordance with 6S and safety standards.
Suggest and implement
tooling or process improvements
to enhance productivity.
Qualifications & Experience
Minimum
3 years of machining experience
(manual and CNC required).
Proficiency with
CNC and manual machines
such as DMG Mori, Sharp, Okuma, Gidding & Lewis, American, Acra, and Bridgeport.
Solid understanding of
shop math, metal properties, feeds and speeds, and cutting tools .
Strong problem-solving and mechanical aptitude.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
Effective communication and leadership skills.
Commitment to
safety, quality, and continuous improvement .
Compensation & Benefits
$24–$32/hour (based on experience)
