Marengo Therapeutics is seeking a strategic and execution-focused Senior Director of Business Development to lead partnering and capital-oriented initiatives that support the advancement of our proprietary STAR, Tri-STAR, and MSTAR platforms and clinical pipeline in Oncology and Inflammation & Immunology (I&I).
This role will be responsible for identifying and structuring external collaborations that align with corporate growth objectives, including strategic alliances, co-development partnerships, and capital-supplementing transactions. The ideal candidate will bring a blend of scientific fluency, transactional rigor, and cross-functional leadership to help shape and execute Marengo’s external engagement strategy.
Responsibilities
Strategic Partnering & Alliance Development
Identify, evaluate, and pursue strategic partnerships with biopharma companies, investors, and other stakeholders. Lead end-to-end deal processes, including outreach, diligence, term sheet negotiation, and contract execution. Develop and maintain a robust network of industry contacts to support ongoing and future BD initiatives. Directly support clinical development teams in the design, execution, and external communication of early-phase immuno-oncology trials. Lead and structure partnerships supporting clinical combination studies (e.g., Invikafusp alfa/ADC), including with pharma/biotech collaborators and translational research networks. Proactively identify and negotiate clinical collaboration agreements to strategically enhance the profile of Invikafusp alfa (STAR0602) across multiple tumor types. Drive platform out-licensing and co-development discussions globally, leveraging the potential of the Tri-STAR platform. Lead and structure business development activities for the emerging I&I/autoimmune pipeline, including therapeutic area-specific partnerships for the MSTAR T-cell depletion platform. Proactively engage with global regulatory authorities, trial sites, and contract research organizations to accelerate advancement of lead immunotherapy assets. Craft and deliver clinical and scientific updates tailored for investors, strategic partners, and conference audiences. Capital Strategy & Transactional Support
Collaborate with the CFO and executive team to align BD strategy with corporate financing goals Support capital-raising efforts through structured partnerships, milestone-based collaborations, and non-dilutive funding opportunities Contribute to investor and partner-facing materials that articulate Marengo’s platform value and clinical trajectory Translate scientific and clinical insights into compelling business narratives tailored to external audiences Monitor competitive landscape, emerging technologies, and market trends to inform BD strategy and asset positioning Support valuation modeling, scenario planning, and strategic prioritization of pipeline assets Cross-functional Leadership & Internal Alignment
Partner with R&D, clinical, legal, and finance teams to ensure alignment on deal structure, risk mitigation, and operational execution Serve as a strategic thought partner to the CFO and executive team on external growth opportunities Represent Marengo at industry conferences, partnering forums, and investor events Qualifications
10+ years of experience in biotech/pharma business development, corporate strategy, or investment banking Demonstrated success in leading and closing strategic transactions, ideally in TCR/T-cell engaging therapies, multi-specific antibodies, ADC/IO combinations, or early-stage platform therapeutics. Strong understanding of clinical development, regulatory pathways, and asset valuation Experience with novel immuno-oncology clinical development and regulatory considerations in early-phase trials. Demonstrated ability to translate clinical and mechanistic data into investor and partner narratives targeted for both scientific and non-technical audiences. Exceptional communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills Advanced degree in life sciences, business, or related field (PhD, MBA, or equivalent preferred) Preferred Attributes
Scientific fluency with strategic acumen—able to bridge technical depth with commercial clarity Experience navigating global pharma landscapes and capital structuring Skilled in aligning internal stakeholders and driving execution across functions Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, high-growth environment with evolving priorities Demonstrated ability to forge global partnerships for clinical-stage assets, including Europe site activation and collaborations. Proven adaptability and comfort operating with platform portfolios subject to prioritization based on rapidly emerging data.
