The Opportunity We are seeking a dynamic and visionary leader for our client to join the leadership team as Chief Operating Officer (COO). This key role will be responsible for overseeing all operational functions and driving strategic initiatives to support the growth and success of our client. The COO will have broad responsibility for the organization’s portfolio of projects and enterprise project implementation and tracking, ensuring that project work moves from business decision to final implementation. The Chief Operating Officer (COO) reports to the CEO and will oversee the daily operations of the organization, ensuring that all functions run smoothly and align with strategic goals. You will collaborate with other senior leaders and oversee the development and implementation of programs and project deliverables across organizational boundaries and functional areas. Specific Duties and Responsibilities: Program Integration and Implementation: Lead the prioritization of projects and programs and recommend program changes or new programs for CEO review and approval. Ensure that various teams, departments, and stakeholders work together toward a common goal, overseeing project timelines and deliverables. Establish clear communication channels and platforms for sharing information and best practices for program management. Develop operational policies and procedures to effectively implement programs. Work with the CEO and the leadership team to develop, drive, and implement the company’s vision, strategies, and goals. Operations: Oversee the daily operations of the company, ensuring that all functions run smoothly and align with strategic goals. Develop and implement plans that enhance productivity, quality, and profitability. Operating Budgets and Regulatory Management: In cooperation with the CFO, oversee and make recommendations to the CEO regarding operating and program budgets. Create and monitor systems and procedures that ensure compliance with all funder and regulatory requirements. Functional Area Management: The COO is responsible for the successful implementation of all activities undertaken by the Cross-Functional Teams that focus on Community Stabilization, Acquisition and Disposition, and Information Technology & Research. Oversight of the proper issuance and administration of third-party contracts. Supervision of Cross-Functional Project Coordinators in the focus areas outlined above. Operational Metrics and Reporting: Oversee the preparation of reports including internal production, tracking and other reports to be presented to the Board. Assist CEO in creating and implementing a performance evaluation process for Cross Functional Teams across the enterprise. Desired Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of effectively managing business operations, enhancing organizational efficiency, and steering company growth. This role requires a strategic thinker who can align operational capabilities with business objectives. The ideal candidate has background in directing and implementing projects and programs, managing project portfolio prioritization, and leading cross-functional teams. The candidate should have experience working with non-profit boards, strong interpersonal communications, relationship development, and change management. The COO should possess superior leadership skills in managing, motivating, and developing professional staff. Qualifications
Education and Experience: College degree in business, finance, accounting, and/or urban planning or related field. Past non-profit leadership experience preferred. Experience in public and private procurement, community development, real estate development, and/or real estate finance a plus. 5+ years of experience managing and directing professional staff. Experience with project management practices, program management, and enterprise prioritization. Familiarity with diplomatic protocols Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs.
