Role Overview The Head – Purchase, Stores & Logistics will lead the end-to-end procurement, logistics, and inventory management functions for an industrial automation, project-based manufacturing organization specializing in Machine Tools and Special Purpose Machines (SPM).

This position requires an experienced professional with strong expertise in procurement of high-value equipment, mechanical and control items, manufacturing processes, costing, and a comprehensive understanding of domestic and international taxation, duties, and compliance regulations.

Key Responsibilities Procurement & Sourcing

Establish, implement, and maintain purchase SOPs to ensure consistency and compliance.

Accountable for routine procurement operations, cost control, and escalation management.

Lead domestic and international sourcing for automation equipment and related materials.

Develop and manage a robust domestic and global supplier base.

Oversee procurement of capital equipment (Capex) including compressors, air conditioners, cranes, furniture, etc.

Ensure procurement at the right price, time, quality, and quantity, from the right source.

Conduct forecasting of project consumption, market trends, and pricing intelligence.

Supplier Management

Evaluate and review Class A & B supplier accounts.

Drive alternate sourcing strategies and develop substitutes for critical commodities.

Manage supplier relationships and ensure on-time delivery and quality performance.

Conduct supplier review meetings and performance assessments regularly.

Inventory & Stores Management

Define and monitor reorder levels for critical items.

Ensure optimal inventory utilization by identifying cost-effective alternatives and minimizing excess stock.

Drive liquidation efforts for obsolete or slow-moving inventory.

Maintain accurate records and ensure audit compliance.

Logistics & Import/Export

Coordinate shipment logistics and customs clearance for domestic and international consignments.

Develop and monitor performance of freight forwarders and customs brokers.

Ensure adherence to statutory requirements related to customs, foreign trade, and taxation.

Team Leadership & Reporting

Lead a team of 7–8 professionals across purchase, stores, and logistics functions.

Conduct daily/weekly reviews with the team and fortnightly functional meetings with senior management.

Review and track pending purchase orders, GRIR reports, and KRA achievements.

Ensure timely submission of MIS reports and functional performance data.

Compliance & Audits

Participate in internal and external audits, ensuring complete compliance and resolution of findings.

Maintain and monitor procurement and Capex compliance records.

Market Intelligence

Identify emerging trends, laws, and budget changes impacting procurement and logistics.

Take proactive actions to mitigate risks and capitalize on new opportunities.

Education & Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Electronics Engineering.

Master’s Degree preferred in Materials Management, Supply Chain Management (SCM), or Logistics & Supply Chain Management (MBA/PGDM).

Experience Requirements

10–15 years of experience in procurement, logistics, and stores management within industrial automation, machine tool, or SPM manufacturing environments.

Proven experience in procurement of high-value mechanical and control components.

Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, costing, and strategic sourcing.

Comprehensive knowledge of import/export laws, duties, and statutory compliances.

Experience in project-based, global operations preferred.

Proficiency in ERP systems and data-driven procurement reporting.

Strong analytical, negotiation, and forecasting capabilities.

Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and build supplier relationships.

Excellent communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills.

Familiarity with logistics automation and customs processes is advantageous.
