Wesleyan College seeks a

Director of Human Resources.

This role will serve as the senior human resources officer for Wesleyan College. This role provides leadership and oversight for all aspects of human resources management and employment compliance. This position is responsible for developing and implementing programs, policies, and services that support the College’s mission, values, and strategic goals. The Director will supervise the Assistant Director of Human Resources and Payroll Administrator and will ensures the effective management of all human resources functions, including faculty and staff recruitment, budgeting, onboarding oversight, benefits administration, compensation, HRIS, payroll, employee relations, and compliance with all applicable employment laws. This position requires strong strategic leadership and the ability to balance operational effectiveness with compliance, communication, and collaboration across all levels of the institution.

Essential Responsibilities Provide strategic and operational leadership for all HR functions, including faculty and staff recruitment, onboarding, benefits, compensation, performance management, and employee relations. Oversee compliance with all applicable federal and state employment laws and regulations (including FLSA, FMLA, ADA, Title VII, Title IX employment provisions, and OSHA). Serve as the College’s primary point of contact for employment law and compliance matters; coordinate with external legal counsel as needed. Supervise the Assistant Director of HR and Payroll Administrator; ensure the accuracy and timeliness of payroll, benefits administration, and HRIS processes. Oversee the development, implementation, and evaluation of training programs conducted by the Assistant Director of HR. Develop, update, and maintain HR policies, procedures, and the Employee Handbook; ensure consistent and compliant application across all departments. Lead and manage all staff and faculty recruitment efforts, from job posting and screening to offer and onboarding oversight. Oversee employee relations, including investigations, corrective action, and conflict resolution. Partner with leadership to ensure fair and competitive compensation practices and annual performance review processes. Manage benefits programs, including health insurance and retirement, ensuring compliance, accurate enrollments, and effective communication with vendors. Collect, analyze, and report HR data and metrics to support institutional planning and continuous improvement. Promote a positive, inclusive, and service-oriented workplace culture. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field required; Master’s degree preferred. Minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible HR experience, including supervisory and compliance responsibilities. Demonstrated knowledge of employment laws, HR best practices, and higher education or similarly complex organizational environments. Experience managing faculty and staff recruitment processes. Strong interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills with the ability to handle confidential and sensitive issues with discretion. Excellent analytical and organizational abilities with attention to accuracy and detail. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and HRIS platforms. PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP certification preferred.
