We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive
Environmental Engineer
to join our team in the chemical manufacturing sector. This role is responsible for ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, managing permitting processes, and implementing sustainable engineering practices that support safe and responsible operations. The Environmental Engineer will play a key role in air emissions management, waste handling, water treatment, and chemical process compliance while supporting continuous improvement in environmental performance. Key Responsibilities Manage environmental permitting, reporting, and compliance activities (air, water, and waste) for chemical manufacturing operations. Monitor and evaluate plant operations to ensure adherence to federal, state, and local environmental regulations (EPA, NJDEP, OSHA, RCRA, CAA, CWA, TSCA, RMP). Prepare and submit required environmental reports, dealing with air permits, hazardous waste manifests, TRI/Form R, stormwater reports, and emissions inventories. Conduct environmental audits, inspections, and corrective action programs. Collaborate with operations, EHS, and engineering teams to identify and mitigate environmental risks. Develop and implement strategies for waste reduction, emissions control, and energy/resource conservation. Assist with environmental sustainability initiatives. Maintain strong working relationships with regulatory agencies, consultants, and contractors. Support new capital projects by reviewing design plans for environmental compliance and sustainability considerations. Train plant personnel on environmental procedures, best practices, and emergency response protocols. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related discipline 5+ years of environmental engineering experience in the
chemical, petrochemical, or manufacturing industry . Strong knowledge of environmental regulations applicable to chemical operations (EPA, RCRA, CAA, CWA, TRI, SPCC, TSCA, TCPA, RMP). Experience with environmental permitting and reporting systems. Demonstrated ability to analyze technical data, solve problems, and implement effective solutions. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for working across departments and with regulators. Professional Engineer (PE) license, CHMM, or other relevant certification a plus. Preferred Skills Familiarity with ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems. Background in chemical process safety and environmental risk assessment. Proficiency in environmental compliance software and data management tools. Primarily office-based with regular interaction on the plant floor. Exposure to industrial/chemical environments requiring adherence to safety protocols and use of PPE.
