Job Summary The Associate Director, Prospect Research & Philanthropic Grants, plays a key role in advancing the University’s fundraising priorities by integrating comprehensive donor and prospect research with strategic support for philanthropic grants. This position provides actionable intelligence on individual, corporate, and foundation prospects while collaborating with the Corporate and Foundation Relations team to strengthen and manage grant opportunities. The Associate Director will prepare high-quality research and briefing materials, guide grants-related timelines and requirements, and ensure that both prospect research and grant development efforts are aligned with the institution’s philanthropic strategy.
This is a collaborative, hands-on role requiring strong research, project management, and communication skills. While the position does not directly supervise staff, the Associate Director works closely with development officers, advancement leadership, and campus partners to maximize donor engagement and philanthropic investment.
Job Duties
Prospect Research Conduct in-depth research on individuals, corporations, and foundations to identify prospective donors and funding opportunities.
Analyze philanthropic trends and giving capacity to inform fundraising strategy.
Develop and maintain detailed prospect profiles in the donor database, ensuring timely and accurate information.
Prepare strategic, high-quality briefing documents on individual, corporate, and foundation prospects to support donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
Provide actionable insights to frontline fundraisers to strengthen donor engagement strategies.
Philanthropic Grants Collaborate with the Corporate and Foundation Relations team to identify and research grant opportunities aligned with University priorities.
Track and communicate key grant deadlines, application requirements, and reporting obligations to internal stakeholders.
Assist in developing and maintaining grant-related prospect pipelines, ensuring that funder intelligence is shared across the advancement team.
Partner with faculty, administrators, and development staff to prepare strong, well-informed grant applications and stewardship materials.
Contribute to strengthening long-term relationships with philanthropic foundations and corporate funders.
Qualifications
Education : Bachelor’s degree required from an accredited college or university.
Experience : Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in prospect research, fundraising, grant development, or a related field.
Skills : Proficiency with donor databases, research tools, and Microsoft Office Suite; excellent written and verbal communication; strong project management; collaborative mindset.
