EHS/HS Site Supervisor

If you thrive on supporting staff to do their best, you may be the person we are seeking. Position works in the Child Development (CFDP) area of services. This service area provides early childhood education, social services, and parent education to 1,000 families with young children each year via Head Start/Early Head Start and State Preschool. Head Start has been improving the lives of low-income children and families in Santa Cruz County since 1965 through high quality, comprehensive child development and family support services. Head Start supports school readiness and promotes healthy families through delivery of education, health, and social services.
Job Summary
We are seeking a Site Supervisor who, under the direction of the Education Manager, will supervise and oversee the operations of several center-based sites serving children aged 6 months to 5 years. The Site Supervisor will assure regulatory and legal compliance with federal, state, and local regulations; communicate with parents and the community; supervise, monitor, and ensure training of all center staff; and monitor compliance with Head Start Performance Standards, Child Care Licensing, and State of California Preschool program regulations.
Position is full-time, exempt. Annual salary range is $64,500–$66,000 depending on experience and education; pay differential for bilingual skills awarded upon qualification.
Duties & Responsibilities
Supervise and mentor Teacher Directors, Teachers, Teacher Assistants, and Family Services Advocates.
Observe and monitor classrooms for compliance and prepare related paperwork and reports.
Serve as Hiring Manager for their cluster; provide timely and accurate follow-up and tracking of documentation for new and potential hires.
Develop and implement onboarding plans for new hires and internal job/staff re-assignments.
Maintain compliance with federal and state regulations and Agency Policies at all centers/sites.
Ensure staff are trained on developmentally appropriate practices and agency policies and procedures.
Oversee case management work with families.
Act as a liaison between the community, school districts, and other agencies.
Maintain budget within approved limits; track purchasing and other spending.
Oversee orientation of center volunteers/interns.
Ensure facilities adhere to regulations at all times.
Support parent engagement activities within their cluster.
Monitor overall center operations to ensure high-quality services: conduct announced and unannounced visits, identify cluster needs through one-on-one meetings and site observations.
Initiate substitute coverage procedures as needed and step in to provide coverage when required.
Qualifications
B.A. degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Human Development, or a related field.
3+ years’ experience supervising staff.
Minimum 3 years of administrative experience.
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook).
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong leadership and communication skills, initiative, good judgment, and problem-solving abilities.
Ability to manage multiple tasks concurrently and to review data to make informed decisions and create action steps.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Knowledge of the community and county resources.
Experience implementing a strength-based approach with families.
Knowledge of California Licensing Regulations is a plus.
Ability to work at children’s physical level (bending, squatting, sitting and rising from the floor, moving swiftly for coverage).
Other Requirements
Criminal record clearance before hire and during employment.
Physical exam / TB / IZ clearance.
Valid CA Driver’s License and good driving record; valid vehicle insurance.
Proof of citizenship or right to work in the United States.
Flexible schedule with some early mornings, evenings, and weekends.
Preference
Bilingual verbal and written English-Spanish skills strongly preferred.
