Overview
The Senior Buyer is responsible for managing the procurement of materials, components, and services to support production operations. This role plays a key part in identifying, evaluating, and onboarding new suppliers, negotiating competitive terms, and maintaining reliable supply chain performance. The ideal candidate will bring strong analytical and negotiation skills, a deep understanding of manufacturing procurement processes, and a commitment to cost reduction and quality improvement. Key Responsibilities
Source, evaluate, and qualify new suppliers to support production and company growth initiatives. Lead supplier negotiations covering price, delivery terms, quality requirements, and long-term contracts. Manage purchasing activities for assigned commodities, materials, or production categories. Collaborate with engineering, quality, and production teams to ensure supplier capabilities meet technical and performance standards. Monitor supplier performance, conduct audits, and implement corrective actions when necessary. Analyze market trends, cost drivers, and lead times to identify cost-saving opportunities and mitigate supply chain risk. Develop and maintain supplier scorecards and performance metrics. Support new product development (NPD) and continuous improvement initiatives by aligning sourcing strategies with business objectives. Maintain accurate purchasing records, purchase orders, and ERP data integrity. Ensure compliance with company policies, ethical standards, and industry regulations. Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, or related field preferred. 3+ years of purchasing or sourcing experience in a manufacturing environment (automotive or industrial preferred). Proven experience in supplier vetting, negotiation, and contract management. Strong understanding of manufacturing materials and processes (machining, stamping, plastics, etc.). Excellent communication, problem-solving, and relationship management skills. Proficiency in ERP/MRP systems and Microsoft Office Suite. Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications a plus. CPM, CPSM, or related certification preferred.
