The Medical Laboratory Scientist II performs various laboratory procedures in assigned areas as licensed/certified. Work generally involves analytical testing of blood and/or human biological specimens. Depending on campus and department, various pre- and post-analytical work processes are included; on-call hours may be required. Follows laboratory policies and procedures; maintains quality control practices in the Laboratory. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and maintains respectful relationships with all. The Value You'll Bring To The Team
Performs assigned pre-analytical activities related to laboratory testing, including equipment maintenance, function checks, documentation, inventory control, specimen collection as needed, processing, cleaning and disinfection of equipment and spaces; quality control and calibration; and other pre-analytical activities Performs all expected tests and analytical procedures for the assigned department or work area accurately and efficiently, adhering to procedures, standards, and competency requirements; participates in proficiency testing and complies with federal, state, and Institutional policies Performs post-analytical activities, reports results (including highly abnormal results) per established procedures; provides technical and support information related to laboratory testing for all age groups (neonatal to geriatric) Provides orientation and training to new employees and medical technology students; may act as a preceptor when assigned; documents orientation and training appropriately Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in medical technology, clinical laboratory, chemical, physical, biological sciences or related field Laboratory licensure in appropriate specialty for the department or location, as applicable to the state BLS certification ASCP or AMT certification Additional Details
