Backup Storage Engineer is responsible for leading and/or working on the most complex IT infrastructure, modification, installation, testing, implementation, and support of new or existing system hardware and software products. This classification plans, installs, configures, tests, implements and manages core system hardware and software in support of an organization’s IT architecture and business needs. Roles may include titles such as Backup/Recovery Engineer, Storage Engineer, Backup Engineer, Backup Administrator, and Storage Administrator. Responsibilities
Administer, install, configure, and maintain backup and storage systems (including CommVault, Dell/EMC, IBM, NetApp, and Pure Storage). Create CommVault backup jobs for Linux, UNIX, Windows hosts; manage NAS NDMP, databases (DB2, SQL, Oracle, PostgreSQL); mask, zone, and provision storage to UNIX/Windows/VMware servers. Perform data recoveries and troubleshoot storage and backup issues. Provide data backup/recovery support for cloud service providers (AWS, Azure, GCP, IBM Cloud); plan and upgrade systems regularly; monitor health and apply changes as needed. Analyze issues reported by internal/external teams, make recommendations, and participate in design of system architecture. Work with customers to test applications after changes; upgrade hardware with minimal downtime; evaluate new software technologies; ensure security products are patched regularly. Skills Required
In-depth knowledge of CommVault Complete Data Protection VMware data protection and recovery using VADP (VMware vStorage API for Data Protection) Configure, administer, tune, and optimize NFS/CIFS protocols on NetApp storage array Command line and shell scripting UNIX (IBM AIX, Linux, HP-UX) TCP/IP, Administration of networking hardware Experience Required
Three (3) years of experience within the last five (5) years as a backup administrator, configuring, implementing, and troubleshooting CommVault data backup systems in enterprise environments. Three (3) years of experience within the last five (5) years with Dell/EMC, IBM, NetApp, and Pure Storage solutions from midrange to enterprise class storage arrays in enterprise environments. Two (2) years of experience within the last five (5) years using, configuring, implementing, and troubleshooting cloud-based backup, servers, and storage systems for enterprise environments. Education Required
This classification requires a bachelor’s degree in an IT-related or Engineering field. Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis. Application
