Overview
My name is Bill Stevens, and I have a new full time z/OS Systems Programmer opportunity available for a major firm located in Nanuet, New York that could be of interest to you. The work schedule will be hybrid, three days a week in the office and two days remote. If the ideal candidate is not local, the firm will consider a remote candidate depending on his / her experience. This position will be paying a competitive fulltime salary from $100,000 - $125,000 plus a comprehensive benefits package. Responsibilities
Installation and Upgrading a z/OS environment, customization, problem determination, performance analysis tuning, capacity planning, and WLM for the IBM Mainframe zSeries z/OS Systems, hardware systems & peripherals, zSeries based ISV software, and zSeries network communications. Interface with management and the technical staff to plan and prioritize project tasks in accordance with firm departmental goals. Monitor system software access, performance, and resource utilization. Maintain the z/OS and JES2 software environment. Work with application programmers to ensure that application problems do not adversely affect production operations. Provide 24/7/365 software support, including on-call support during off-hours. Assist with the analysis, design, programming, and implementation of client environments. Develop/maintain/monitor proper software use and security authorization policies. Create, maintain, and upgrade operating system software for development and production environments. Analyze requirements and recommend policies, procedures, and standards for operating system software. Implement and verify backup and recovery procedures, including business recovery concerns and testing. Accept ownership of all mainframe-based systems, including multiple z/OS sysplexes. Install new z/OS releases as they become available and configure to support Customer/Client environments. Maintain system reliability and ensure availability; keep systems current with IBM maintenance. Be available after hours for emergencies or exceptional situations concerning the mainframe and mainframe-based systems. Resolve any system-related problems that may arise in a timely and efficient manner. Requirements
10+ years of experience with mainframe software management specific to z/OS operating system and other software products. Broad knowledge of OEM products (Broadcom, BMC, ASG, etc.). Ability to install and customize IBM and third-party software using SMP/E & other installation programs. Experience in keeping the z/OS hardware configuration current using IOCP and HCD. Experience supporting leading/training of software management. Possible travel and variable hours may be required. Ability to write/customize software exit program(s) and use software utilities as required. Solid knowledge of mainframe JCL and utilities. Ability to write/read/debug programs in a batch and online environment. Ability to perform multiple activities simultaneously with minimal supervision. Knowledge of z/VM and zLinux is a plus.
