Enginuity Power Systems
Sr. Electrical Engineer - Power Electronics
Enginuity Power Systems, Detroit, Michigan, United States, 48228
Overview
Sr. Electrical Engineer – Power Electronics
at Enginuity Power Systems (EPS). EPS is a distributed energy power generation and engine R&D company focused on transforming how power and energy are produced. Established in 2015, EPS is growing and seeks a multi-talented Sr. Electrical Engineer with working knowledge of advanced power generation, energy conversion, distribution and Power Electronics. Hands-on experience in system design, prototyping and power electronic development hardware and software is desired. The Sr Electrical Engineer - Power Electronics will build on existing electrical systems and designs and develop, test and integrate new power electronic components and subsystems (e.g., DC-AC inverters, DC-DC converters, AC-DC rectifiers, Battery Chargers and controllers) for energy conversion and advanced hybridization technologies used in EPS power generators and Combined Heat and Power (CHP) systems. The role focuses on meeting electrical efficiency targets and power quality requirements across various environments, analyzing existing electrical systems, and developing cost-effective improvements, as well as R&D of next-generation power electronics and controls. The ideal candidate will design testing methods, run diagnostics, and troubleshoot current and emerging electrical designs for Portable Power, Hybrid Power Systems, and CHP systems. Candidates with background in power electronics circuit analysis and design, PCB layout and design, and component selection for power generation products are preferred. Responsibilities
Lead and perform electrical design of circuits, circuit elements and equipment systems from concept through prototype design, and develop cost-effective production-intent designs with manufacturability in mind. Apply diverse electrical engineering practices to identify, analyze and resolve complex issues. Review and modify shop level and production electrical schematics and verify corrections in CAE software. Apply circuit analysis and simulation software such as PSPICE. Apply knowledge of electrical concepts, practices, codes, and procedures. Plan, instrument, test and troubleshoot electrical/electronics systems or devices. Develop computer engineering analysis and simulation tools to support design applications. Prepare cost estimates to support project plans and development. Develop test plans for electrical characterization of power generation and energy conversion components and systems under various loads and transients. Devise, set up and execute tests, assessments, experiments and system evaluations. Support operation and maintenance of emerging hardware to assess system vulnerability. Handle multiple tasks and priorities to meet target dates; travel up to 10% for field demonstrations/tests. Perform other duties as needed. Qualifications
Educational Qualification:
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering with a minimum of 5 years of direct related experience. Areas of study should include electrical engineering, power circuit analysis (AC/DC), microcontroller programming, MATLAB/Simulink, C/C++, materials properties for supporting design and thermal management of electric machines and power electronics, and the ability to perform detailed electrical and power calculations for complex control systems. The Senior Engineer should have working knowledge of applying engineering theories and techniques with power systems, microgrids, renewable energy systems, energy storage, and advanced control systems. The following competencies are representative of knowledge, skills, and abilities required: Experience analyzing specifications and performance requirements to design, develop, fabricate and test electrical/electronic components and subsystems (alternators, power electronics, control structures, digital communications, hybrid power systems, distribution systems, etc.). Ability to formulate opinions, decisions and guidance for critical electrical/electronic systems. Ability to develop electrical schematics and innovative circuit designs. Ability to assess advanced power system concepts, specifications and system integration. Experience analyzing drawings and specifications to determine optimal electro-mechanical interfaces and integration requirements. Experience planning and implementing research methodology, testing, system integration, manufacturing and Reliability & Maintainability (R&M). Strong working knowledge of computer-aided design tools for design assignments and related analysis and reporting. Competencies and Skills: Manages Complexity Action Oriented Resourcefulness Collaborates Situational Adaptability Other Duties Note: duties may change; work beyond 40 hours per week may be required.
