Job Description
Environmental Scientist - Remediation at AECOM – Atlanta, GA. AECOM is actively seeking a highly motivated Environmental Scientist for employment in the Atlanta, GA office. This position supports the Environmental business line, primarily working on Federal/CERCLA/FUDs projects including Superfund and DOD sites. Responsibilities
Conduct planning, implementation, and evaluation of data for CERCLA remediation investigations and remedial activities including RI, FS, ROD, PP and RDs. Manage or participate in treatability studies and full scale implementation of in situ and ex situ remediation of environmental media. Utilize basic scientific principles, theories, practices and existing technologies to develop solutions for technical problems with limited scope. Prepare technical work plans and reports. Interpret and record data, conduct analyses, compare findings to relevant studies and local, state and federal regulations to ensure compliance. Plan, execute, analyze and report on environmental measures in natural systems. Apply standard field practices and techniques using basic field equipment to collect samples of soil, soil vapor, groundwater, surface water, sediment; prepare samples for shipping, and complete chain-of-custody or similar paperwork. Apply knowledge of natural sciences (chemistry, physics, biology, hydrology, and mathematics) to explain observations. Conduct oversight of subcontractors including laboratories and excavation and drilling companies. Study contaminants and determine how to restore the environment. Review analytical data for general indicators of quality for routine analyses based on well-defined guidelines. Coordinate with task and project managers, working with on-site subcontractors and field staff, supporting sampling, data collection, and field documentation. Demonstrate flexibility to work on a multitude of diverse projects, maintain a positive attitude, and uphold workplace health and safety. Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Engineering or Environmental Science, plus 4 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education Valid U.S. Driver's License Due to the nature of the work, US Citizenship is required. Preferred Qualifications
4 years or more of relevant experience specifically with CERCLA RI/FS/RD processes on Superfund and DOD sites. Knowledge of treatability studies and implementation of in situ and ex situ contaminant remediation technologies. Experience conducting PFAS site assessments. OSHA 40 Hour HAZWOPER Certification with annual refresher training. Coursework and experience in environmental science, geology, hydrogeology or other related discipline (e.g., geophysics, hydrogeology, geochemistry, environmental geology, engineering geology). Experience leading field sampling events for soil and groundwater site assessments. Experience with developing conceptual site models, and preparing remediation strategies. Proficiency in standard office suite software applications. 40 hour HAZWOPER training and/or annual 8 hour refresher class. Ability to demonstrate professional demeanor in written and verbal communications with clients, regulatory officials, and fellow employees. Ability to write and convey complex thoughts and ideas clearly and concisely; ability to learn on the job. Candidate must be able to meet the medical clearance requirements of an OSHA (HAZWOPER) medical surveillance physical examination. Tolerance for outdoor work in a range of weather conditions.
