Responsibilities
Prepare and maintain medical equipment for surgical procedures.
Follow hospital regulations and industry procedures to tend to patients during pre-operation procedures.
Perform surgical case preparation including surgical instrumentation and medical equipment.
Provide assistance to the circulating RN with procedure/patient preparation.
Ensure proper equipment, instruments and supplies are provided for procedures and specialty areas.
Maintain a well-organized sterile setup/field at all times to support smooth operations.
Follow sterile techniques and maintain a sterile field at all times.
Operate autoclaves and follow proper sterilization methods for selected instruments.
Count instruments, sponges and sharps according to procedure.
Check instrumentation for accuracy and maintain functionality throughout procedures.
Follow recommended AORN guidelines at all times.
Collaborate with the OR team, anticipate surgeons’ needs, and participate in case progress.
Assist with room turnovers to help decrease turnover time and support OR staff.
Respond to overhead pages promptly (within 3 minutes).
Assist with after-hours clerical OR desk duties by answering phones and taking messages.
Able to take call for assigned department within four months of hire, if required by facility.
Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Education: Graduate of accredited Surgical Technology program (one year of experience may substitute for this requirement).
Experience: No experience required.
Special Skills: Communication, customer service, computer skills; knowledge of medical terminology.
