General Summary of Position
MedStar Health is looking for a Medical Assistant to join our team at
Washington Hospital Center . As a Medical Assistant, you will perform a complete range of basic clinical, billing, and clerical services in a medical office under the direction of a registered nurse or physician. Responsibilities include greeting, receiving, and preparing patients; maintaining the examination areas; receiving and screening telephone calls; scheduling appointments; and coordinating patient flow. Phlebotomy and electrocardiography functions are performed as needed. Primary Duties
Receives and screens telephone callers, provides information per department policy, routes calls to appropriate personnel, takes and forwards messages, schedules and coordinates appointments, and obtains relevant diagnostic test results before patient appointments.
Greets patients, visitors, and staff; registers patients in the patient registration system and confirms insurance information; accepts payments; enters data into databases; creates and maintains spreadsheets and electronic files; prepares routine correspondence; transcribes dictated physician notes; follows up with patients after procedures and conveys information to physicians.
Prepares patient to be seen by physician; escorts patient to exam room; takes vital signs and records them; collects laboratory specimens; performs electrocardiography functions as needed; assists physician in examinations and procedures; cleans and prepares exam rooms between patients; administers oral and parenteral medications and immunizations as directed by supervising physician.
Maintains patient charts, departmental files, records, and logs, including billing and appointment records; pre-registers out‑patients for next day appointments; inventories and orders office and clinical supplies and equipment; checks equipment for proper functioning; ensures billing accuracy and forwards bills to appropriate personnel; receives and reviews incoming mail to the department; opens, sorts, and distributes mail as appropriate.
Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED.
Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program strongly preferred.
Training in typing, office procedures, and medical terminology.
Secretarial or office experience demonstrating organizational skills.
Working knowledge of office computers and clinical procedures in a hospital or medical setting.
Basic Life Support (BLS).
Certification or registration as Medical Assistant preferred.
Hiring Range This position has a hiring range of $23,817 - $36,350.
