The Senior Director of Foundation Relations develops and executes a strategy to secure grants, philanthropic gifts, and sponsorship funding from private foundations, community foundations, and other private sources to grow Goodwill Southern California’s social enterprise and 85+ community impact programs across Los Angeles and the Inland Empire. Reporting to the Chief Development Officer, this role expands Goodwill’s foundation portfolio and builds relationships with prominent foundations locally and nationally aligned with our mission to drive systems change and prosperous outcomes for underserved individuals. This senior leader will collaborate with the Development Team and Goodwill Southern California’s Workforce Career Development program leaders to prepare inspirational $500K-$15M funding proposals, drive revenue growth through current and prospective funding opportunities, and engage foundation representatives, key philanthropists, and charitable funding organizations. The role emphasizes developing collaborative foundation requests with multiple internal stakeholders and external partners, including foundation compliance and reporting, data analytics, grant revenue sustainability planning, strategic planning, and proactive renewal efforts. Responsibilities

Develop and execute a plan to secure multi-year grants, unrestricted gifts, and sponsorship funding from private foundations, community foundations, and other sources to innovate, operate, and expand Goodwill Southern California’s social enterprise and 85+ social impact programs. Identify, solicit, negotiate, and steward foundation partners for program initiatives, general operating support, and capacity building. Drive revenue through new and existing sources of private foundations, community foundations, federated fund grants, donor-advised funds, and related sources. Directly write and lead the preparation of $500K-$15M proposals in collaboration with Workforce Career Development subject matter experts to develop data-driven, compelling initiatives. Cultivate, engage, and steward current foundation funders; oversee off-site and on-site visits with Foundation partners and senior leadership. Conduct 1-3 campus visits with prospective and current foundation partners monthly. Conduct 6-10 field or virtual visits with prospective and current foundation partners monthly. Submit a minimum of 80-90 funding requests annually with a first-year revenue solicitation goal of $4.5-$8.5 million, increasing annually thereafter. Prioritize and manage grant application timelines, submission requirements, and reporting deadlines for a portfolio ranging from $5M-$20M annually; prepare and submit funder performance reports. Coordinate with Workforce Career Development and Finance teams to ensure program compliance with funding requirements, monitor grant performance, track outcomes, and prepare progress reports; maintain an organized digital database of all grant submissions, communications, and reporting packages. Represent Goodwill Southern California as a senior leader and spokesperson; supervise grant support staff and volunteers and mentor proposal development, grant management, and reporting. Contribute to foundation event programming and mission messaging to increase awareness, visibility, impact, and scale of Goodwill Southern California’s mission. Ensure compliance with the Association of Fund-Raising Professionals’ Code of Ethics and Donor Bill of Rights. Travel within Southern California as required for weekly in-person department meetings, foundation meetings, and familiarity with Goodwill SoCal’s programs; valid CA driver’s license and auto insurance required. Qualifications

7-15 years of proven foundations relations experience in a nonprofit, large foundation, or equivalent organization. Demonstrated track record of securing seven-figure foundation funding; strong knowledge of the competitive foundation landscape in Southern California and nationally; experience developing program proposals and complex grant budgets; experience working with executives from community foundations and other charitable funding sources. Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university required. Excellent oral and written English communication skills. Valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record. Ability to empower colleagues, collaborate with a fast-paced team, and work independently. Advanced proficiency in Windows programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Email). Willingness to travel extensively (>50% of the time). Strong interpersonal, reporting, and presentation skills; strong problem-solving and attention to detail.
