SKILLBRIDGE, DISTRIBUTION GENERAL MGR (MIT) – DoD Skill Bridge Internship opportunities with NEXCOM, focusing on transitioning active-duty personnel into civilian roles in retail supply chain, logistics, and transportation. Opportunities available for positions such as General Manager and Warehouse Management Specialist (WMS). Location: Virginia Beach, VA (headquarters). DoD Skill Bridge matches civilian opportunities with training and interests during the last months of service. Industry partners provide skills and certifications for immediate employment. Job Summary
Under the direction of the Logistics Directorate, plans and directs purchasing, inventory control, warehousing, shipping, and distribution operations at a local warehouse to help the enterprise achieve corporate goals. Oversees training and development of the distribution operations team to ensure they have the knowledge and skills to perform effectively. Duties and Responsibilities
Develop and maintain a skilled workforce to meet dynamic distribution demands, focusing on training, performance monitoring, and continuous improvement. Collaborate with divisions including Merchandise Planning, Distribution Support, Transportation, Store Operations, Contracting, and Logistics Leadership to align operations and drive improvements. Lead and manage daily operations of the distribution center, ensuring efficiency, accuracy, and timely order fulfillment. Monitor KPIs such as throughput, inventory turns, on-time delivery, and labor efficiency; use data to drive improvements. Work cross-functionally with Merchandising, Marketing, IT, Human Resources, and Finance to align with broader business strategies. Identify and mitigate risks in the distribution process, including safety, supply chain disruptions, and regulatory compliance. Oversee fleet and equipment management, including preventive maintenance and MHE utilization. Adopt automation and technology solutions (e.g., WMS, robotics, conveyor systems) to improve efficiency and reduce manual labor. Ensure regulatory compliance (OSHA, DOT, HAZMAT) and maintain quality control programs for inventory and shipments. Lead staff development, training, and performance evaluation to drive continuous improvement. Coordinate with other departments to support company goals and interdepartmental communications. Special projects as assigned during the internship period. Qualifications and Training Requirements
Must meet DoD Instructions for Skill Bridge participation; eligible for an apprenticeship program up to 120 days. HazMat training within 90 days of hire per DoT regulations. Interim Secret Security Clearance required; ability to obtain full Secret clearance. Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work in a team environment. Physical requirements vary by Program of Instruction. Ten Years Relevant Experience in Navy Logistics, including seven years of progressively responsible experience in distribution/warehouse management systems and related practices, or equivalent supervisory experience in distribution environments.
