Job Summary The University of Arkansas at Little Rock (UALR) invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Associate Professor in the School of Physical Sciences - Physics Program. We are seeking an accomplished and highly motivated faculty member to contribute to the academic, research, and service missions of the university. This position offers an exciting opportunity for teaching, mentoring, and conducting research in a growing and dynamic department. The successful candidate will possess a strong academic background, demonstrate a passion for teaching and research, and be committed to enhancing the department’s impact on both local and national levels. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.
Qualifications Required Education and/or Experience:
Ph.D. in Physics, with a focus in experimental or theoretical areas of condensed matter physics. All Ph.D. requirements must be completed before employment commences.
Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research, publish in high-impact journals, and secure external funding.
Experience teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
Experience with online or hybrid course delivery is a plus.
Preferred Education and/or Experience:
Demonstrated leadership in collaborative research efforts and student mentorship.
A record of external funding (e.g., from NSF, NIH, or industry).
Experience with interdisciplinary research.
Familiarity with the use of modern teaching technologies and active learning strategies.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Teaching: Develop and teach undergraduate and graduate-level courses in physical sciences, including but not limited to physics, chemistry, and earth sciences. Foster an engaging, inclusive, and innovative learning environment.
Research: Maintain a strong, active, and independent research program in a specific area of physical sciences, leading to peer-reviewed publications and external funding. Collaborative interdisciplinary research is encouraged.
Advising and Mentorship: Advise and mentor students at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Supervise and guide graduate students in their research projects, helping to shape their academic and professional development.
Service: Contribute to program, school, college, and university service, including committee work, curriculum development, and participation in university-wide initiatives. Engage with the broader professional community through conferences, workshops, and professional organizations.
Outreach: Enhance the School’s visibility by participating in community outreach programs, fostering relationships with industry, and promoting physical sciences education.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Commitment to inclusive teaching.
Ability to provide effective mentorship.
Strong written and oral communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage students, faculty, and external stakeholders.
Salary Information:
