SUMMARY The Principal will be the educational leader of Laura B. Sprague School.
REPORTS TO Superintendent
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Provide visionary leadership in organizing, administering, and supervising all aspects of the school to maintain and enhance instructional quality and student learning.
Coordinate and oversee instructional programs, including MTSS, Enrichment, Special Education, and preschool, to ensure cohesive and equitable learning experiences for all students.
Demonstrate exceptional interpersonal and communication skills in interactions with students, staff, and families to foster a positive, inclusive school culture.
Apply a strong understanding of elementary curriculum and instruction to guide teaching and learning across grade levels.
Utilize technology effectively to support instruction, communication, and school management.
Exhibit expertise in early childhood education and developmentally appropriate practices.
Collaborate effectively within a professional learning community that maintains high expectations for both students and staff.
Promote 21st‑century skill development, preparing students for success in a global and rapidly changing world.
Implement instructional practices aligned with the Illinois Learning Standards.
Observe, evaluate, and provide timely, constructive feedback to instructional staff to foster continuous professional growth and student engagement.
Direct day‑to‑day school operations, ensuring efficiency, safety, and proper maintenance of the physical facility; lead emergency preparedness and safety protocol implementation.
Prepare, recommend, and manage the school budget to ensure effective allocation of resources supporting instructional priorities.
Develop and manage master schedules, class assignments, and staff duties to maximize instructional time and optimize personnel utilization.
Establish and enforce developmentally appropriate discipline and behavior management policies that cultivate self‑regulation and positive student behavior.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.
WORK ENVIRONMENT Physical demands include occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; frequent climbing of stairs; hearing; talking; walking; seeing; twisting; and significant finger dexterity. The job requires approximately 50% sitting, 30% walking, and 20% standing in a generally clean and healthy environment.
EXPERIENCE
Preferred: Three to five years of experience as a school or district administrator.
EDUCATION
Required: Master’s degree in Educational Administration or related field.
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES
Valid Illinois Professional Educator License with General Administrative or Principal endorsement
Successful completion of Illinois Teacher Evaluator Training
CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CLEARANCE & PRE‑EMPLOYMENT MEDICAL CLEARANCE REQUIRED Required.
