Overview

Lactation Consultant - Women's and Newborn OhioHealth is seeking a Lactation Consultant - Women's and Newborn to participate in the development and implementation of lactation services, including clinical, rental, and retail services. The role provides patient care through individualized consultation and telephone help line support. Responsibilities And Duties

Provides education, demonstration and assistance with the correction of breastfeeding problems for mothers and infants, beyond the scope of normal nursing care, during individualized sessions before, during or after the hospital stay. (80% of time) Maintains equipment, supplies and educational material needed for patient care. Coordinates breast pumps and retail accessories – rental and sales. (8% of time) May provide prenatal and post-discharge classes and support for breastfeeding mothers. Participates in education and training of other Lactation Nurses. (5% of time) Collaborates in writing policies, procedures, standards and educational materials for the Lactation Program and maintains continuity of care with the Lactation Consultant. (2% of time) Engages in continuing education for self-development and growth; attends workshops, educational meetings and conferences; reads current obstetric, pediatric and lactation literature. (3% of time) May participate in research, planning and application for CEUs and implements in-services for staff for breastfeeding information. (2% of time) Minimum Qualifications

Associate's Degree (Required) RN - Registered Nurse - Ohio Board of Nursing Desirable qualifications

Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC), Professional certification as International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) with three years in a clinical setting. Highly developed interpersonal relationship skills. Advanced leadership, communication and clinical skills. Thorough understanding of adult education principles. Strong knowledge base in physiology and pathophysiology related to breastfeeding. Clinical experience in perinatal areas with focus on post-partum care. Work Shifts and Schedule
