Overview

Scripps College, a women’s liberal arts college with a strong interdisciplinary tradition, invites applications for a full-time Visiting Assistant Professor position in the Department of Spanish, Latin American, and Caribbean Literatures and Cultures. Beginning Fall 2026. This is a one-year appointment with the possibility of renewal for a second year. The teaching load is five courses per year, plus thesis reading. Salary range: $65,700 to $73,000, set based on internal equity, experience, education, specialty, and training. Responsibilities

Teach five courses per academic year in Spanish (undergraduate liberal arts context). Provide thesis reading and mentorship as part of the department’s activities. Contribute to undergraduate education with dynamic, innovative teaching and a commitment to liberal arts pedagogy. Qualifications

Ph.D. preferred; ABD will be considered. Previous teaching experience and native or near-native fluency in Spanish required. Research areas include, but are not limited to, colonial and/or post-colonial periods; transnational or comparative approaches; and topics such as race and sexuality studies, postcolonial eco-criticism, urban studies, translation theory, new media, Visual and Performance Studies relevant to Latin America, the Caribbean, Spain, and Africa.
