Lead Technician, Pest Control

Universal Orlando Resort JOB SUMMARY: Supports management in directing and coordinating Pest Control crew activities; skilled at plant identification, plant or tree deficiencies, maximize plant health, understand plant nomenclature. Oversees scheduling of herbicide, pesticide and fungicide applications for L&O and Aquatic programs. Monitors IPM practices, Green Initiatives, and beneficial insect programs. Reinforces all UO safety guidelines, UO policies and procedures; completion of essential written documentation; and the ability to communicate and organize with other UO departments.
Major Responsibilities
Plans and delegates work assignments among qualified crewmembers. Communicates performance expectations to ensure proper task completion; provides feedback for recognition and performance improvement. Assigns PMs and accurately records labor in Maximo.
Reinforces company safety guidelines and programs; monitors employee productivity and work habits. Manages work startup and stoppage, schedules breaks. Maintains care, condition, use and storage of tools, equipment and other UO property. Maintains material inventories. Ensures compliance with wardrobe/grooming standards, driving policy, radio usage, and other UO policies.
Ensures proper completion of documentation. Uses Lead Observation Report to support managerial and supervisory documentation.
Communicates and coordinates with other departments or crafts as needed. Communicates resource needs and work plans to supervision. Maintains two-way communications between the work team, supervisor, and HR personnel.
Performs duties as described in non-lead job descriptions. Maintains and shares job knowledge and assists in developing employees.
Assists with training new and current employees. Identifies who will provide daily training.
Understands and participates in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policy, procedures, training and team member involvement activities.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Education
High school degree or GED – Required
Associate’s degree in Horticulture or Entomology preferred
Bachelor’s degree in Horticulture or Entomology preferred
Experience
5+ years: Ornamental pest control required
2+ years: Creating and implementing pest management programs required
1-2 years: Creating and implementing Plant Health Care programs preferred
1-2 years: Aquatic Pest Control preferred
5+ years: Landscape maintenance experience preferred
2+ years leading others required
Or equivalent combination of education and experience
Certifications, Licenses, Registrations
Valid Florida Driver’s License required to operate company vehicles
Pest Control Operator’s License (PCO) required
Aquatic Weed Control License required
Commercial applicator’s license preferred
Mosquito Control license preferred
Limited Wildlife License preferred
