School District U-46 . Position is responsible for assisting the head coach with organization of the program, conducting practices, motivating students, and instructing student athletes in game strategies and techniques.
Job Duties / Responsibilities
Organizes and oversees specific program levels or areas of responsibility.
Work within the head coach’s organizational structure.
Verify participant registration and eligibility with the head coach and athletic secretary.
Develop game schedules, practice schedules, facilities use, transportation needs, and the program budget with the head coach.
Communicate and plan practice sessions and competition strategies to ensure the health and safety of student participants.
Attend pre-season parent meetings to review scholastic eligibility, athletic code of conduct, team rules, injury prevention, and associated risks.
Coordinate off-season, summer, and in-season practice and competition schedules with the head coach.
Maintain responsibility for level-specific equipment inventory, selection, and care.
Maintain a safe facility and equipment; communicate effectively with athletes, school administration, staff, students, parents, and the community.
Maintain positive public relations with media, boosters, parents, officials, players, and local programs.
Establish cooperative relationships with students, parents, staff, and administration; work with students of varying abilities and backgrounds to instill commitment, discipline, and teamwork.
Think on your feet and handle stressful situations; model sportsmanship and fair play.
Monitor students’ athletic and academic eligibility and collaborate with teachers and administration to prioritize academics.
Take precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities; demonstrate prompt and regular attendance.
Plan and implement safe, effective daily practices and other events; supervise students before, during, and after practices and contests.
Apply and enforce the U-46 Athletic Code of Conduct and U-46 Student Code of Conduct.
Collaborate with the head coach on fundraising and maintain accurate financial records in compliance with policy.
Provide end-of-season records and statistics to the head coach; build relationships with local athletics organizations and feeder programs.
Attend applicable orientation events and engage in ongoing professional development.
Other duties as assigned by the Head Coach and/or Athletic Director.
Education
Proper certification with American Sport Education Program and/or valid Illinois Teaching certificate.
Pass IHSA required tests and view videos.
Current First Aid/CPR/AED certification.
Experience / Knowledge
Demonstrate knowledge of and ability to implement effective coaching theory, strategies, and techniques for high school athletes.
Proven focus on good sportsmanship, academic excellence, positive attitudes, and character.
Knowledgeable in sport-specific techniques and strategies.
Ability to handle stressful situations professionally; coaching background preferred.
Physical Demands
Standing for long periods; may involve walking and physical activity.
Demonstrated hearing, vision, depth perception, manual dexterity, and ability to operate equipment.
Work in varied temperatures and weather, indoors and outdoors; can involve extreme heat.
Lift up to 50 pounds as needed.

Sport Season governed per IHSA
For ETA coaches: potential renewal without reapplying if satisfactory status is maintained
