Lead Software Test Engineer
to support the Federal Government—preferably within DoD or the Intelligence Community. The
Lead Software Test Engineer
will oversee a team of functional and automation testers in an Agile development environment to ensure complete, end-to-end testing for software releases on a mission-critical application. Testing will include Unit, Acceptance, Regression, Load, and Performance methods. You will create and execute test plans, utilize test-driven development, and collaborate closely with Agile development leads. This position reports directly to the Program Manager. This is a hybrid position based in Reston, VA, requiring up to 80% on-site presence.
TS/SCI clearance required with willingness to obtain CI Poly. Responsibilities
Lead and manage a team of 7 testers across functional and automation testing. Perform all aspects of test planning, execution, and oversight. Provide automation testing leadership, including framework design, scripting, and test execution (using Selenium and open-source tools). Plan, manage, and oversee testing activities for multiple releases. Generate and report on test status, progress, product quality, and process compliance. Implement and refine Agile test strategies; define acceptance criteria and 'definition of done' with Product Owners. Review user stories and create test cases, scripts, and suites for execution. Report and track defects through resolution. Ensure testing tasks are properly scheduled during release and iteration planning. Collaborate with developers and stakeholders to ensure requirements are testable, consistent, and complete. Participate in daily standups, grooming sessions, retrospectives, and contribute to process improvements. Identify automation opportunities and design reusable automation components/modules. Create and configure Jenkins jobs to run automated tests. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior testers. Required Qualifications
9+ years of IT testing or software development experience, including acceptance, functional, exploratory, regression, and backend database testing. Experience with defect management and reporting, writing test plans, test scripts, and test reports across multiple platforms/environments. 3+ years leading test teams, coordinating multiple testers. Strong knowledge of Agile and Waterfall SDLC methodologies. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and debugging skills. Hands-on experience with web services/API testing and load testing. Experience implementing and maintaining quality control processes to ensure standardization and accuracy Preferred Qualifications
Experience managing a test team on a DoD or the Intelligence Community. Professional Tester Certification. Certified Scrum Master (CSM) or Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) certification. Education
Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field required Clearance
Applicants must hold an active or recent TS/SCI with CI Polygraph, or a current TS/SCI clearance with willingness to obtain CI Poly.
