The City of Sunrise is offering a $5,000 recruitment incentive bonus to internal and external candidates who successfully complete the hiring process for this position. We are exploring an Alternative Work Schedule to provide two three-day weekends per month through an every-other-Friday-off model, expected to roll out in early 2026. Position title: Engineering Inspector (Civil) – focused on inspecting paving, drainage, water, sanitary sewer, and other civil engineering projects, reviewing construction documents, meeting with contractors, developers, and agencies, and ensuring compliance with City standards and regulations. Nature of Work / Responsibilities

Conduct engineering construction inspections for paving, drainage, water, sanitary sewer, and related civil work. Review construction documents and materials lists; meet with contractors, developers, and government agencies; inspect sites and ensure compliance with plans, permits, and City standards. Respond to inquiries, investigate complaints, and update related records and systems. Participate in preconstruction meetings; review shop drawings for compliance; inspect public right-of-way and private development site work; ensure ADA compliance and proper drainage and utility installations. Enter inspection results and details into the City’s computer system; review as-built drawings and cost documentation for accuracy. Provide exemplary customer service and maintain professionalism in public interactions. Requirements

Education

Graduation from an accredited high school or GED. Experience

Five years of work experience in constructing underground utilities, storm drainage, and pavement systems; or extensive experience with inspection of underground utilities, storm drainage, and pavement systems in government or private sectors. Necessary Special Qualifications

Certification(s): One of the following or equivalent: State of Florida Underground Utility and Excavation Contractor; or Broward County Specialty Engineered Construction Contractor Category 1A Certificate of Competency; or State of Florida Certified General Contractor; or State of Florida Water Distribution Class 3 (or higher); or 10 years’ experience installing/inspecting underground water, sewer, and/or drainage utilities infrastructure and/or pavement. Preferred: State of Florida DEP Stormwater Erosion and Sedimentation Control Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record; must obtain Florida license prior to hire. Physical / Work Environment

Work is performed in field environments; shifts may vary and include evenings, weekends, and holidays. Exposure to adverse conditions and water-related locations may occur. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds; ability to operate a City-issued vehicle. Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of drainage, utilities, roadway, and sidewalk construction; ability to read and interpret engineering plans; strong written and verbal communication; ability to enforce regulations impartially; and ability to work in a fast-paced environment with independent judgment. Benefits
