Senior / Staff Backend Software Engineer

At Termina, our mission is to gather first-party data for every venture-backed company globally. We believe that private-market investment decisions often occur without the necessary information and objective metrics. By curating the largest dataset of venture-backed companies, we aim to empower investors and executives to enhance their decision-making process through Termina's Quantitative Diligence. Originating as the diligence technology for Tribe Capital, a $1.9B venture fund, Termina is also supported by prominent programs such as Sequoia's Scout and others. We have successfully funded our growth independently and currently operate profitably. Our engineering team has recently completed exciting projects, including: Leveraging LLMs for automated data labeling and integration into our ETL processes. Facilitating Kraken's $1.5B acquisition of Ninjatrader. Onboarding significant clients, such as a $20B family office, and optimizing their workflows. We are seeking a Senior/Staff Backend Software Engineer to design scalable systems that assess product-market fit and support high-stakes decision-making for leading venture investors. You will face the challenge of creating robust infrastructure to aggregate data from all startups. An Opportunity to Architect Large-Scale Data and Backend Infrastructure Develop core components of our multi-interface data application from the ground up. Oversee a complex suite of data APIs and infrastructure while embracing high-leverage deployment and Infrastructure as Code (IAC) practices. Innovate new products that utilize AI and LLMs to create new insights and interfaces with the unique datasets at Termina. Design and implement advanced solutions for distributed systems management and large-scale data processing and retrieval. About You A strong commitment to automation and a detailed approach to your work. Solid foundation in backend software engineering, with a continual drive to learn new technologies and frameworks. The capability to make strategic decisions regarding scalable infrastructure and data processing. A keen interest in emerging AI technologies and startups. 5-7 years of relevant experience, although we are open to candidates with varied backgrounds. Our Stack Today We use Python for our backend and data processing, with key frameworks such as FastAPI, pandas, Ray, Dagster, and SQLAlchemy. Our development process incorporates a variety of LLMs along with our data processing methodologies. GCP serves as our primary cloud platform, utilizing GKE, BigQuery, BigTable, artifacts, and more. We adopt a no-click mentality with Terraform, Terragrunt, Helm, Skaffold, and leverage GitHub Actions and Datadog for CI/CD, lifecycle management, and observability. Location Applicants should be located in the San Francisco Bay Area or Greater Toronto Area and must be willing to travel monthly to the Bay Area for team offsite meetings.
