Overview
Field Auto Physical Damage Appraiser Northern Oakland County – Clarkston/Waterford at AAA-The Auto Club Group. This role reports to the Claim Manager as appropriate. Position Description
Work under minimal supervision with a high-level approval authority to handle complex technical issues and complex claims. Responsibilities include reviewing assigned claims, contacting the insured and other affected parties, setting expectations for the remainder of the claim process, and initiating documentation in the claim handling system. Complete complex coverage analysis, identify all policyholder benefits, create sub-claims if needed, investigate facts to determine payment, applicable limits or exclusions, and possible recovery potential. Conduct thorough damage reviews and evaluate applicable laws and factors related to the claim. Evaluate the financial value of the loss and approve payments to appropriate parties. Refer claims to other company units when necessary. Thoroughly document and code the claim file and complete all related activities in the claims management system. Utilize strong negotiating skills. Auto Physical Damage (APD) claim unit responsibilities include handling complex claims involving settling Total Losses, inspecting vehicles, and preparing estimates. If in the DRS Examiner role, manage Direct Repair Shops for program compliance. Additional duties may include determining cause of damage, establishing liability, identifying subrogation potential, monitoring repairs, approving car rental expenses, overseeing APD Litigation, managing litigation processes including attorney and budget management, and participating in mediation. May assist Claim Manager with file reviews and training. Qualifications
II. Required Qualifications (minimum requirements) Education (minimum, licensing/certifications): Complete ACG Claim Representative Training Program or demonstrate equivalent knowledge or experience In states requiring an Adjuster’s license, eligible to acquire a State Adjuster’s license within 90 days of hire and maintain as specified for appropriate states A valid driver’s license is required if primary responsibilities involve in-person inspections or frequent in-person meetings Experience: Three years of experience or equivalent training in: negotiation of claim settlements, securing and evaluating evidence, preparing manual and electronic estimates, subrogation claims, resolving coverage questions, taking statements, and establishing clear evaluation and resolution plans for claims Knowledge and Skills: Advanced knowledge of Essential Insurance Act (Michigan), Fair Trade Practices Act as it relates to claims, subrogation procedures and processes, intercompany arbitration, handling simple litigation, Negligence Law, No-Fault Law, collision repair techniques Ability to: Handle claims to the line Claim Handling Standards; follow and apply ACG Claim policies, procedures and guidelines; work within assigned ACG Claim systems; perform basic claim file reviews and investigations; demonstrate effective verbal and written communication; provide customer service by building and maintaining relationships with insureds/claimants; analyze and solve problems with sound decision making; prioritize claim-related functions; process time-sensitive data from multiple sources; manage time, organize and plan workload; safely operate a motor vehicle for site visits; research, analyze and interpret subrogation laws in various states; travel outside of assigned territory (overnight may be required); relocate, work evenings or weekends Preferred Qualifications Education: Associate degree in Business Administration, Insurance or related field or equivalent experience Completion of selected insurance programs (e.g., General Insurance Program, Associate in Claims, associate in management or equivalent) CPCU coursework or designation I-CAR Pro Level training CCC training XACTWARE Training Work Environment
May work in a temperature-controlled office or remote/virtual setting. Travel to various repair facilities for inspections or re-inspections, and to patient/hospital/attorney/rehabilitation facilities, with exposure to road hazards and temperature extremes.
