CMS Energy is seeking a qualified
Real Estate Permit/Zoning Agent III
to support permitting and zoning initiatives for construction, operation, and maintenance of energy infrastructure. The successful candidate will liaise with governmental agencies, ensure regulatory compliance, and manage multiple real estate and permitting projects efficiently. Responsibilities
Communicate and negotiate with governmental agencies to obtain necessary permits, licenses, and approvals for construction and maintenance activities. Represent CMS Energy at public and governmental meetings (e.g., zoning boards, townships, city councils). Interpret and apply municipal and jurisdictional policies to ensure regulatory compliance on all real estate and permitting matters. Prepare and submit permit applications, insurance certificate requests, bond postings, and associated documentation. Draft, review, and manage correspondence and documentation related to real estate and permitting transactions. Maintain thorough records of permits, approvals, and agency correspondence. Collaborate with internal departments (legal, engineering, real estate) to align on project requirements and timelines. Required Qualifications
Minimum
3 years
of experience in the
Right of Way/Real Estate
industry. At least
1 year of direct experience
as a Permit or Zoning Agent. Proven knowledge of zoning, land division regulations, and utility permitting. Ability to interpret legal descriptions, real estate documentation, and construction-related drawings. Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills. Proficiency in understanding jurisdictional regulatory processes affecting real estate transactions. Preferred Skills
Familiarity with Michigan municipal codes and permitting processes. Experience working with utility companies or in the energy sector.
