Overview Lee County is seeking a detail-oriented and service-driven professional to join our Veterans Services team. This position provides vital clerical and administrative support to veterans and their dependents, helping them access the benefits and services they are entitled to under federal and state laws. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Veterans Service Manager or Veterans Service Officer, in accordance with applicable statutes, regulations, and departmental policies.

Responsibilities

Provide administrative and clerical assistance to veterans and their dependents regarding benefits and rights under federal and state statutes.

Consult with and advise clients seeking veterans’ benefits through federal and state programs.

Research and interpret statutes, regulations, program guidelines, and medical documentation relevant to veterans’ benefits.

Collect and analyze data; calculate income and eligibility for benefits.

Respond to public inquiries in person, by phone, or in writing.

Attend trainings and maintain current knowledge of applicable laws and regulations.

Prepare and maintain appointment calendars; schedule client meetings.

Research, compile, and generate reports using various sources.

Enter and retrieve data using VA and department databases.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Education, Experience, Licensing You need any combination of education and experience that is equal to:

High school diploma or GED equivalent, plus specialized coursework equivalent to one year of college in business administration, finance, human resources, or a closely related field.

Two (2) years of experience in clerical, administrative, customer service, or similar office support roles.

OR High school diploma or GED plus three (3) years of relevant experience.

Proficiency in office software, data entry, and managing client interactions.

Eligibility Requirements (per Florida Statute 292.11)

Must be a veteran of the Armed Forces of the United States who served a minimum of 18 months active duty and was honorably discharged

OR the surviving spouse of such a veteran.

Must meet training and qualification standards and receive approval by the Florida Department of Veterans’ Affairs.

Supplemental Information Work Schedule:

Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM

Emergency Response/Recovery Activities:

All County employees are required to work before, during, or after an emergency as needed. This may include temporarily being assigned to work and performing duties outside of the normal scope of their position, location and work schedule to fit the needs of the County and its citizens.
