Posted On: Wed Sep 24 2025 The State University of New York System Administration, located at our SUNY Global Center in New York City, is searching for a University Police Officer 2 (UPO2) in the Office of System Administration Police. A UPO2 will be fully trained as a police officer with police powers as defined in the New York State Criminal Procedure Law. UPO2s are responsible for the detection and prevention of crime and the enforcement of laws, rules, and regulations for the protection of persons and property and the general maintenance of peace, order, and security. UPO2s will develop and maintain a positive relationship with all segments of the System Administration campus community to obtain cooperation and support in conducting a successful law enforcement program. Typical activities will include crowd control, foot and mobile patrols, traffic control, procedural follow-through, written reports, participation in crime prevention and personal protection programs. UPO2s will also perform additional duties such as attending Board of Trustees meetings at various SUNY campuses, including SUNY’s Global offices located in NYC. Responsibilities / Duties

Schedules and assigns UPO1s to mobile and foot patrol and dispatch/desk post assignments Briefs University Police Officer personnel in preparation for shift assignments to ensure subordinates are informed of current assignments, security problems, and changes in policy and procedure Tours the campus and directly observes UPOs on the job to assess effectiveness and efficiency of performance and provides on-site instruction in law enforcement techniques Regularly inspects the persons and equipment of UPO personnel for compliance with University regulations; directs subordinates to make necessary corrections Reports to the crime, accident or disturbance in order to halt crimes in progress Responds to calls for assistance from fellow officers or members of the campus community Conduces initial investigations; preserves and gathers evidence; interviews witnesses, complainants and suspects Confer with fellow officers to ascertain the nature and severity of a situation Reports the results of investigations to supervisor as directed and may testify in court Regulates pedestrian and vehicular traffic; stops persons violating vehicle and traffic laws Controls crowds, fights and altercations; operates screening devices for prohibited items May apply resuscitators, administer first aid and summon ambulances Utilizes electronic devices such as personal computer, video surveillance and door access system Prepares shift summary reports, logs and records May deliver a variety of in-service training and/or community related programs Job Requirements

Minimum Qualifications: Three years of permanent service as a University Police Officer 1 Must have a valid NYS driver’s license Hours:

9:30 am to 5:30 pm This is a permanent position in the competitive jurisdictional classification. To be eligible for this position, candidates must be reachable for appointment on the current Civil Service eligible list for this title; or have permanent status as University Police Officer 2, SG-17, and be eligible for lateral transfer; or be eligible for transfer under Civil Service Law; or be eligible for reinstatement pursuant to Civil Service Rule 5.4.
