Department-Specific Responsibilities Analyzes complex financial data (e.g., income statements, balance sheets, and cash flows) to support strategic decision-making and ensures compliance with university and federal guidelines.

Develops and maintains financial models to support budgeting, forecasting, rate setting, and long-term financial planning for Indiana University (IU) Conferences, a department which manages more than 1,300 conferences and non-credit programs annually.

Prepares and interprets monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports; communicates insights through charts, dashboards, and technical reports for internal stakeholders.

Monitors and enforces financial compliance, including credit card reconciliation, PCI standards, tax regulations, and grant billing processes critical to program sustainability.

Supports cost analysis and vendor negotiations by maintaining a master database of historical expense data, helping ensure transparency, efficiency, and fiscal responsibility.

Drives accounting workflow improvements by identifying inefficiencies and implementing streamlined processes that enhance accuracy and reduce manual effort.

Automates reconciliation processes and other routine financial tasks to improve data integrity and reduce risk across multiple high-volume accounts.

Evaluates and recommends new financial tools, systems, or software integrations.

General Responsibilities

Performs more complex fiscal analysis of income statements, balance sheets, and cash flows; compiles trends and makes recommendations to guide financial decisions.

Provides specialized financial analysis using measures such as past financial performance, economic conditions, price, yield, stability, and investment risk.

Oversees and assists with specialized financial assignments, such as the regular preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial activity summaries.

Prepares, reviews, and provides interpretation of complex reports and analyses for manager and department as needed.

Verifies accuracy of data and makes recommendations for corrections.

Interprets fiscal policies and provides leadership to lower-level employees.

Presents findings using tools such as spreadsheets, charts, graphs, and technical reports.

Qualifications Combinations of related education and experience may be considered. Education beyond the minimum required may be substituted for work experience. Work experience beyond the minimum required may be substituted for education.

Education Required

Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field

Work Experience Required

5 years in finance, financial administration, accounting, or related field

Preferred

Experience with data visualization platforms such as Power BI and Tableau

Working Conditions / Demands This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus.
