Description of Work Unit
The Department of Agricultural Biology is committed to excellence in the creation and dissemination of knowledge about insects, plant pathogens, and weeds in agricultural, natural, and urban ecosystems. Our mission is to enhance human well‑being by improving ecosystem sustainability. In addition to generating new knowledge, we apply knowledge in entomology, plant pathology, and plant sciences to solve practical problems related to biotic and abiotic plant stress, integrated pest management, and ecosystem health.
Position Summary This part‑time research associate will be expected to field‑collect data, analyze data, interpret results, and write and present on results and conclusions under the guidance of the supervisor and other team members.
The successful candidate must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. by the start date. The department will not provide visa sponsorship for this position.
Required Job Qualifications
MS in Plant Pathology with an emphasis in Forest Pathology.
Knowledge of fungal forest pathogens.
Skills in field data collections.
Data analysis skills in SAS or R.
Must have a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain one by the employment start date.
Preferred Job Qualifications
Ability to work independently in a research setting.
Experience working with large datasets that include molecular and field‑collected data.
Essential Duties Job Duty Category: Research
Perform data analyses to integrate genetic data with field‑collected metadata to determine pathways of spread and speciation of invasive and native tree fungal pathogens.
Present results and prepare manuscripts.
Percentage Of Time: 80%
Job Duty Category: Field work
Remote travel to field sites to collect site data in natural forest stands.
Percentage Of Time: 20%
