Responsibilities
As a Pet Stylist at Petco, provide professional grooming services to pets, ensuring exceptional care and leaving them looking and feeling their best.
Under moderate to limited supervision, perform professional grooming services including bathing, drying, brushing, haircuts and styling, nail trimming, ear cleaning, and gland cleaning, following pet parents’ instructions and breed standards and company policies.
Operate and maintain grooming instruments (clippers, blades, shears, brushes, dryers).
Prioritize the safety and well-being of every animal, monitor for signs of discomfort or illness, and report concerns to pet owners and store management.
Evaluate individual pet needs (coat type, skin conditions, temperament) and provide professional grooming recommendations.
Interact professionally with pet parents, deliver excellent customer service, address inquiries, and provide timely resolutions.
Educate pet parents on grooming maintenance and at-home care practices and products.
Maintain a clean and safe grooming area, disinfect and sanitize tools, and perform cleaning tasks in accordance with Petco policies.
Adhere to Petco grooming policies, standards, and guidelines to ensure safety, quality and consistency.
May train, support, and supervise entry-level trainees in the absence of a Grooming Salon Leader.
Education/Experience
Successful completion of the Pet Stylist Apprentice program with Petco, or previous experience as a professional groomer and/or completion of a technical grooming training program.
High-school diploma or GED preferred, though not required.
Ability to use grooming skills and knowledge to solve routine to moderately complex problems with some guidance from leadership.
Results-driven with commitment to productivity, performance, and ownership of the role.
Strong attention to detail, ensuring grooming services meet high standards.
Genuine passion for animals and desire to pursue a career in pet grooming.
Knowledge of various dog breeds, grooming requirements, health issues and behaviors; proficiency in breed-specific cuts and styling.
Strong verbal and written communication skills for interactions with pet parents and team members.
Ability to handle pets of all sizes and temperaments with care and empathy.
Availability to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as required by the grooming schedule.
Work Environment The majority of duties are indoors in the grooming salon. Responsibilities include bending, kneeling, lifting up to 30 pounds, and standing for long periods. May involve elevated work with ladders for cleaning tasks. A large portion of time will be spent with pet parents and dogs; the environment can be noisy and wet.
Salary and Benefits Salary range:
$15.00 - $22.50
