Instructional Technology Media Specialist role at Inside Higher Ed. The position supports faculty and instructional staff in the design, development, and delivery of multimedia course content for digital learning environments, with a focus on Canvas and accessibility standards. Responsibilities

Content Development & Design Collaborate with faculty and program staff to design and develop digital course materials, activities, and multimedia content for use in the Canvas LMS, Canvas Studio, Canva, and other instructional technology platforms. Transform instructional concepts and faculty-provided materials into engaging, visually appealing, and pedagogically sound digital learning assets. Apply principles of instructional design to create interactive and inclusive learning resources that support learning outcomes. Edit, produce, and publish video content, graphics, and other media assets for instructional use. Design presentation templates, infographics, and course visuals that support effective learning and reflect institutional branding. Accessibility & Quality Assurance Ensure all course content and media meet WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility standards and institutional digital accessibility policies. Conduct accessibility audits of course materials using institutional tools and recommend remediation strategies. Review and test all assets for functionality, clarity, and accuracy before deployment. Technical Support & Faculty Development Provide just-in-time troubleshooting and technical support for Canvas and related instructional media platforms. Offer one-on-one and small group consultations to guide faculty in creating and using course content effectively. Deliver short workshops, video tutorials, and documentation on technical tools, accessibility best practices, and media production tips. Collaboration & Continuous Improvement Work closely with instructional designers, IT support staff, and accessibility specialists to ensure consistent support and alignment with academic goals. Adapt quickly to evolving technologies and participate in professional development to maintain current best practices in instructional technology. Respond proactively to feedback and make iterative revisions to deliverables to meet faculty and student needs. Qualifications

Required Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Technology, Educational Media, Instructional Design, or a related field. Experience in higher education teaching, training, or faculty support. Working knowledge of Canvas LMS. Familiarity with accessibility tools (e.g., PopeTech, UDoIt, or other compliance checkers). Proficiency with additional media editing tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Cloud, Camtasia, or Audacity). Technical Proficiency Strong working knowledge of Canvas LMS and integration of multimedia tools. Experience with basic video editing (e.g., trimming, captions, transitions) and graphic design. Familiarity with Canvas Studio, Canva, and basic web content creation. Accessibility Expertise Proficient in creating and remediating digital course materials to meet WCAG 2.1 AA standards. Experience using accessibility checkers and assistive technology for quality review. Communication & Collaboration Skills Ability to explain technical concepts clearly to users with varying levels of skill. Strong team player with excellent interpersonal and customer service skills. Skilled in organizing and delivering effective demonstrations, workshops, and consultations. Workstyle & Attributes Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail. Capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously and meeting deadlines. Receptive to frequent feedback and able to make timely, high-quality revisions.
