The Staff Accountant reports to the Director of Investments & Treasury Services of Miami University in the Investments & Treasury Services Office. The Staff Accountant is expected to establish new gift records in Workday, work closely with University Advancement gift processing staff, coordinate monthly transfer of gift cash, and back up the Investment Accountant for contingency plan and capacity constraints. The Staff Accountant also conducts analysis of fund flows as required. Job Duties & Responsibilities
Establishes new endowed and spendable gift funds and allocates cash and securities gifts to funds for Miami University, the Miami University Foundation, and the Paper Science & Engineering Foundation. Updates and reconciles endowment records. Assists in calculations and recording of the annual endowment distribution of income to each individual spendable account, along with the administrative fee. Assists with preparation of mid-year estimates and year-end actual reports for the determination of available funds and for dissemination to effected Deans and Vice Presidents. Works with University Advancement staff on routine and non-routine gift accounting matters, including the recording of complex gifts, accounting for trusts, accounting for separately invested gifts, and recording pledges. Assists with the coordination of cash gift transfers to appropriate entity and appropriate investment pool. Provides information for and helps prepare the University’s and Foundation’s annual financial statements. Prepares audit schedules, liaises with external audit team, and responds to auditors’ inquiries. Serves as back-up to investment accountant for tasks such as unitization of endowments, recording of journal entries, and monitoring of accounting and transaction activity. Back up for reconciliation of investment accounts to the general ledger and University Advancement’s records of gifts receipted to amounts recorded in the general ledger. Helps resolve any differences. Accounts for various student loan program payments. Completes additional tasks, reports, and analysis as assigned. Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree and 3+ years of experience. Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor\'s Degree in Accounting Certified Treasury Professional Certified Public Accountant Preferred Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Complex Excel macro writing and use Advanced Excel spreadsheet skills Report programming from database tables Experience, knowledge, and understanding of ERP systems, especially Workday Experience with endowments. Additional Position Information (if Applicable)
