The Writing and Communication Learning Specialist will provide the highest quality academic support services to an assigned caseload of undergraduate students so that they realize personal learning goals, work effectively, and achieve the highest level of academic excellence and achievement. The specialist oversees individualized and group student learning activities: designs, pilots, implements, coordinates and evaluates tutoring, study coaching and supplemental instruction initiatives, including training of students, graduate interns, and faculty conducting these activities. Will handle an academic coaching caseload of students. Responsibilities

Collaborates with the Director of College Writing to work with FYS faculty in integrating the writing, communications, and learning resources into the curricula Helps to identify specific student academic and study skills problems and develops individualized academic programs and workshops to help students establish semester goals and develop an action plan to help achieve those goals Coordinate all social media efforts, such as Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest, and update content regularly Help to identify specific student academic and study skills problems and develops individualized academic programs and workshops Monitor the academic progress of assigned students including maintaining regular session logs for each student, and completing all academic assessment tools as needed In collaboration with the Director of College Writing: Identify, interview, and evaluate potential student tutors and supervise their professional development as needed Develop, deliver and/or coordinate the delivery of presentations on improving writing Publicize center services to the campus community Provide direct 1:1 professional writing support to a caseload of students Provide direct 1:1 professional writing support and group workshops for students applying for fellowships and graduate study Host weekly drop-in hours Assist with the content creation of the Roth Writing Center website; update regularly Learns, manages, implements, and trains in the use of study skills and academic software programs Work with students to establish semester goals and develop an action plan to help achieve those goals Provide individualized academic coaching to students and maintain records of student meetings Create a calendar of weekly “strategy and technique” website posts, and post content accordingly Schedule student individual, group and small group tutoring sessions Prepare monthly activity progress reports throughout the semester Other projects and responsibilities as assigned Qualifications

Master’s Degree or terminal Master’s Degree in relevant field required 3-5 years of related experience working with a broad range of students utilizing an individualized, strategy-based approach Knowledge of current writing and tutoring pedagogies Ability to develop and deliver training programs High integrity needed to handle confidential information Ability to build and sustain key relationships with students, faculty and college community Well-organized, able to work under pressure and as a member of a team Ability to interact well with a variety of people from all aspects of the college and community Strong written and verbal communication skills Proficient in Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Powerpoint, and Word) Proficient in technology to support social media, with an understanding of HTML Attention to detail Individuals with experience tutoring or mentoring college students, working with college students from ESL backgrounds, and/or working with students with disabilities are especially encouraged to apply. Preferences and Other Details

Driving required: No Salary range: $58,000-60,000 Note: Connecticut College is committed to fair and competitive compensation.
