HCA Florida Palms West Hospital seeks a Chief Medical Officer (CMO) to provide senior-level leadership to clinical, quality, infection control, risk management, safety, and medical staff credentialing functions. The CMO will lead quality initiatives, support standard clinical practice across the hospital, and contribute to overall hospital strategy and service line development to ensure high-quality, patient-centered care. Major Responsibilities
Physician Alignment Lead clinical performance expectations to ensure superior clinical outcomes and patient experience. Collaborate with Hospital CMOs, CEOs, medical staffs, and Boards of Directors to improve the hospital medical staff organization. Foster teamwork with medical staffs and hospital management; relay management viewpoints to medical staff and maintain relationships with physicians. Provide clinical support for cost-effective resource management while maintaining clinical effectiveness. Create a data-driven environment for quality and cost improvement and develop systems to review utilization and outcomes. Serve as a liaison between HCA-affiliated physicians and facility/corporate clinical services. Orient and develop management expertise for Hospital Chiefs of Staff and Medical Executive Committees; oversee medical education programs. Lead educational sessions and in-service programs on clinical resource management, standards, and quality improvement. Assemble regional physician advisory panels and liaise with committees and leadership. Explain and obtain buy-in for corporate-, group-, and facility-sponsored clinical initiatives; collaborate with facility and corporate CMOs. Educate physicians on HCA clinical technologies; collaborate on formulary and supply opportunities. Medical Staff Affairs Develop and monitor policies for disruptive and impaired physicians; implement regional monitoring and intervention programs. Provide recommendations for hospital policies and procedures related to medical staff affairs. Advise on physician credentialing, utilization, and quality profiling; participate in peer review as requested. Business Development and Payer Relations Evaluate new medical technologies and programs for relevance to HCA hospitals. Support physician recruitment, clinical program development, and hospital strategy; provide medical director services for credentialing and contracting issues. Provide medical consultation on contracting, pricing, and managed care issues; support appeals, discharge planning, case management, and utilization management. Advise on delegated utilization and disease management under contracts; ensure regulatory and accreditation compliance. Assist case managers and hospital staff to reduce payer denials and support denials/appeals processes; participate in corporate and group meetings to support quality and risk management activities. Quality/Evidence-Based Practice/Patient Safety Promote positive patient interactions and evidence-based practice; oversee outcomes management to monitor care quality and safety. Advocate for evidence-based clinical practice and patient safety with facility leadership and clinicians. Explain and promote quality initiatives to HCA-affiliated medical staffs and physicians. Additional Responsibilities Foster collaboration within the patient care enterprise and lead the facility management team. Establish working relationships with medical staff leaders; recognize clinical excellence through measurable metrics. Facilitate collaboration between hospital leadership and the medical staff in policy direction; drive physician and patient satisfaction improvements. Education & Experience Doctoral Degree in Medicine (MD) or Osteopathic Medicine Required Master’s Degree in Business or related field Preferred 10+ years in clinical practice Required Experience as a CMO (or equivalent) in a large, complex hospital or regional health system Required Board certification as a Physician; additional management coursework preferred Licensure, Certifications, Training State Medical Board Licensure (any US state) Required Board certification as a Physician Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Behaviors Mission and Values alignment; ability to build trust and respect Clear, impactful communication; ability to engage stakeholders Strategic relationship building with internal and external partners Leadership and development of others; coaching and mentoring Effective decision making and change management Execution focus and accountability for financial and operational results Commitment to service, quality, and patient safety Ability to anticipate and resolve health care program-related challenges Note: Eligibility for benefits may vary by location.
