Overview Production Engineer will be specializing in volume electromechanical assemblies. The role involves cost reduction, New Product Introduction (NPI), and preproduction activities.
Responsibilities New Product Introduction (NPI)
Oversee the NPI process for new products. This includes collaboration with design, engineering, quality, and operations teams to ensure a smooth transition from design to production
Conduct Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) reviews. Provide feedback to design teams to optimize product designs for efficient and cost-effective manufacturing
Develop and document manufacturing processes, work instructions, and routings for new products. Ensure adherence to quality and regulatory standards
Identify and implement cost reduction initiatives in production processes and materials. Contribute to overall departmental objectives
Spearhead continuous improvement initiatives using Lean manufacturing principles. Enhance efficiency, reduce waste, and improve product quality
Analyze production data and metrics (e.g., CPI, SPI, quality index) to identify areas for improvement and drive process optimization
Production Support & Optimization
Provide day-to-day technical support to the production floor. Resolve build issues, troubleshoot problems, and implement timely solutions to maintain production flow
Develop and optimize assembly processes for hardware (e.g., PCB assembly, wiring harnesses)
Maintain detailed documentation of production processes. This includes standard operating procedures, test procedures, and quality control records
Preproduction Activities
Support preproduction builds and analyze results to identify potential production risks and areas for improvement
Collaborate with suppliers to ensure component readiness and quality for preproduction and production phases
Assist in qualification, acceptance, and performance testing for new and modified systems
Work effectively with cross-functional teams, including production, quality, design, and procurement, to achieve project goals
Communicate clearly and concisely with various stakeholders, including technical and non-technical audiences
Qualifications Bachelor\'s degree in Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related field
7+ years of experience as a Production Engineer in a volume electromechanical assembly or related manufacturing environment
Strong understanding of manufacturing processes for hardware (e.g., PCB assembly, wiring harnesses)
Experience with NPI processes and associated methodologies (e.g., DFM, DFA)
Knowledge of cost reduction strategies and Lean manufacturing principles
Experience with quality control measures
Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Preferred Skillset Familiarity with PLM and/or MES systems
Experience with 3D CAD software
Experience with high volume production
