The Sr. Physician Assistant (PA) with Neuro Oncology will see new and follow-up patients in the ambulatory setting and perform IT chemotherapy / lumbar punctures for our critical leptomeningeal disease program at MCC, which supports all diseases seen throughout cancer services. Acts as a liaison and collaborates with the multidisciplinary care team. Provides patient/family and staff education. Supports the development and revision of divisional policies and procedures. Participates in and/or initiates research. Will provide care to oncology patients in the outpatient oncology and infusion center. Demonstrates knowledge of solid cancers and hematological blood cancers. Demonstrates knowledge of administration of antineoplastic therapies, side effect management, and triage of oncologic emergencies. Develops and expands the role responsibilities as patient and system needs change. The Senior Physician Assistant (PA) will assess and provide medical care as appropriate for patient care populations based on competence, professional expertise, and knowledge. The Senior Physician Assistant is expected to practice consistent with the Professional Standards of Practice. Collaborative judgment with the off-site physician is expected to be exercised within the context of interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approaches to patient care. Under general supervision, the Senior PA performs operational-level duties as described in the UCSD Performance Policy. The major emphasis of this position is direct patient care delivery. Assignments at this level primarily encompass management of patients who present chronic and/or episodic health problems. Assignments at this level may include responsibility for occasional community teaching programs, participation in program planning, and development of patient education information. May perform other related duties as assigned. Demonstrates a high level of professionalism, excellent verbal and written communication skills and leadership core competencies. Has the ability to function as part of an interdisciplinary team. Has the ability to understand the medical as well as psych-social needs of a patient population with cancer. Will work with and evaluate patients on clinical trials. May perform procedures such as paracenteses, bone marrow biopsies, lumbar punctures, skin biopsies and antineoplastic therapy ordering. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Must be a graduate from a physician assistant program approved by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA).

California Physician Assistant (PA) license.

Current PA Certification from NCCPA.

Current ART certification, or BLS/CPR and ACLS certifications at time of hire with commitment to get ART within six (6) months of hire date.

One (1+) or more years of outpatient Oncology experience as a licensed Physician Assistant.

Proven ability to perform initial history, and physical examination, identify major medical problems, and formulate appropriate plans of action.

Demonstrated knowledge of common diagnostic tests, exams, and procedures used in a clinic setting.

Must understand purpose, required supplies and/or equipment, how to perform procedure accurately, infection control, an accurate documentation of medical chart.

Strong ability to manage own patient load.

Must be able to function in a fast-paced environment, have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and consistently demonstrate empathy and kindness to all staff and patients.

Experience working collaboratively and effectively within a multidisciplinary team.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Relevant oncology certification.

ER and/or Urgent Care experience.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs. Must be able to obtain UCSD Medical Staff privileges and maintain during employment. Due to advanced practice credentialing eligibility, clinical advanced practice experience must be within the last two years. Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical. Pay Transparency Act Annual Full Pay Range: $160,922 - $211,974 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%) Hourly Equivalent: $77.07 - $101.52 Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
