MHC Fellows - Grand Valley Metropolitan Council (GVMC) Join the MI Healthy Climate Fellows (MHC Fellows) and make a lasting impact on Michigan’s carbon‑neutral future! The MHC Fellows program accelerates Michigan’s climate action through capacity building and leadership development. Fellows serve across the state to advance the MI Healthy Climate Plan’s (MHCP) goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. The plan, unveiled by Governor Gretchen Whitmer in April 2022, aims to avert the worst impacts of the climate crisis, create good‑paying jobs, position Michigan as a climate action leader, and build a healthier and more prosperous, equitable, and sustainable Michigan for all Michiganders.

About the Host Partner The mission of the Grand Valley Metropolitan Council (GVMC) is to advance the current and future well‑being of our metropolitan area by bringing together public and private sectors to cooperatively advocate, plan for, and coordinate the provision of services and investments which have environmental, economic and social impact. GVMC also operates the Lower Grand River Organization of Watersheds (LGROW) with the mission to understand, protect, and improve the Lower Grand River Watershed for all to enjoy.

MHC Fellow Role and Responsibilities

Support the education, outreach, and restoration projects led by the Lower Grand River Organization of Watersheds.

Empower communities in West Michigan to access federal, state, and local climate resources by planning meetings, educational programs, and/or other activities to consistently share information.

Advance the West Michigan Healthy Climate Plan in partnership with the MI Healthy Climate Plan goals.

Connect West Michigan communities and residents with other applicable state and federal climate programs, focusing on Environmental Justice and communities of most need in West Michigan.

Participate in MHC Fellows development shared learning and collaboration activities, including four in‑person convenings and monthly virtual trainings (provided by program staff).

Host a community input session with the host site to collect community feedback and advance the goals of the MI Healthy Climate Plan.

Position Type and Work Location Hybrid – Onsite (Monday, Wednesday, Thursday) and remote (Tuesday, Friday). Hours: Monday–Friday 8 am – 5 pm. Site: 678 Front Ave. NW, Suite 200, Grand Rapids, MI 49504.
