AltPep draws its origins to Dr. Valerie Daggett’s lab at the University of Washington’s Bioengineering Department. We are looking for additional team members to join us at our state‑of‑the‑art headquarters located on the Eastside of Lake Union in Seattle.
Base pay range $78,000 – $88,000 /yr
About this Role We are seeking a meticulous and dynamic Research Associate to join our team. As part of this role, you will be responsible for conducting and supporting laboratory research, ensuring the highest standards of quality and precision. Your contributions will be critical to the success of our research and development efforts, and you will have opportunities to work both independently and collaboratively within our innovative team.
What You’ll Do
Contribute to/ independently execute in vitro assays to evaluate peptide-based therapeutics to support in vitro and in vivo pharmacology and toxicology assessments.
Perform analytical assays on cells and tissues, including ELISA, MSD, and functional plate‑based assays.
Support immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescent analysis, including staining and imaging.
Perform routine mammalian cell culture maintenance, expansion, cryopreservation, and tissue dissociation for primary cell culture.
Troubleshoot and maintain instrumentation to ensure smooth laboratory operations.
Document research findings meticulously in lab notebooks and records.
Work independently and collaboratively within an innovative team to achieve project goals.
Prioritize and organize workflow to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
Maintain a clean and orderly laboratory environment.
Analyze and interpret data, generate reports, and communicate results to the rest of the team.
Must Haves
Bachelor’s degree in biology, biochemistry, bioengineering, or a related field.
Conduct research responsibly with attention to detail, take pride in your work, and memorialize it in meticulous lab books and records. You’ve demonstrated these skills through academic or work experiences.
While you appreciate being part of a team, you also value opportunities to work on your own.
You understand the value of structure, but you are also flexible.
What Will Separate You From The Rest
Undergraduate degree with 2+ years of hands‑on laboratory experience.
Demonstrated proficiency in aseptic cell culture techniques.
Proficiency performing plate‑based analytical assays, including ELISA or MSD.
You possess knowledge and experience in a variety of subject matters, ideally in several of the following areas:
Drug discovery and relationship to human disease
Experience with cell culture
Experience working with or willingness to work with both mice and rats
Ability to provide quantitative analysis of results in reference to calibrations/standards, and able to accept/reject based on quality control criteria
Rigorous quality of experimental details outlined in SOPs
Data Analysis using Excel, Prism, or similar software
You value learning and look for opportunities to expand your knowledge and skills.

We offer competitive compensation that starts at $78,000 to $88,000 for a Research Associate and is dependent on experience.
