Electrical Engineer
role responsibilities include: Function as project lead and/or technical expert on assigned Conventional Power Generation Projects and Teams. Develop electrical drawing deliverables including: One line and three line diagrams Electrical motor schematics, breaker control schematics and wiring diagrams Power cable sizing and cable schedules Complex engineering calculations such as load flow, short circuit, motor starting (ETAP or SKM), arc flash analysis (ETAP or SKM), protective relay settings, battery and charger sizing Develop electrical equipment specifications and Bills of Materials (BOM) for procurement and construction Create man hour budgets and schedule for projects and proposals Attend on-site meetings, investigate existing conditions, interface with clients and provide support during construction Extensively use Microsoft Office, ETAP, and AutoCAD to view and manipulate engineering drawing files The ideal candidate for this position is located or willing to relocate to one of the Black & Veatch Flagship Power Offices: Overland Park, KS; Cary, NC; or Ann Arbor, MI. Key Responsibilities
Develop knowledge and provide guidance on design guides, standards, systems, applicable engineering codes and B&V policies. Provide technical guidance to others on projects and disciplines. Apply knowledge and comply with B&V quality program. Ensure compliance and support continuous improvement and change management. Prepare complex engineering deliverables for larger or multiple projects. Conduct research and recommendations for equipment/materials. Manage data, calculations, budgets, schedules, and quality requirements. Delegate tasks to team members and review work. May lead production teams or coordinate multiple disciplines. Coordinate with internal/external team members on moderately complex projects. Identify client interests and drivers on low to moderately complex projects. Communicate these to the project team and support business development as needed. Provide consultation as a technical specialist; mentor others and apply advanced engineering concepts to unique problems. May assist with resource management and may have administrative responsibilities such as ensuring policy adherence, approving timesheets and expense reports. Preferred Qualifications
Project lead experience in utility-scale conventional power generation design Experience in LV/MV conventional power generation design (e.g., combined cycle, simple cycle plants) QA/QC and project lead experience Ability to work within schedules and manhour budgets Familiarity with NEC and IEEE/ANSI standards Experience with electrical equipment including MV/LV switchgear, transformers, panels, breakers, relays, batteries, cables, and related components Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an accredited program or equivalent experience Minimum of 5 years related work experience Professional Engineer (PE) license active or equivalent to support engineer of record requirements Ability to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (criminal/civil background check, drug screen, motor vehicle records as applicable) Certifications
Active engineering registration or licensure to support engineer of record requirements (PE License). Work Environment/Physical Demands
